Default PONTIAC.... what were they thinking

I tell you I do not know what they were thinking when they decide to stop making the Trans AM. I know I am not happy...I am new here and I hope you have not talked this to death. I mean for me it is nice in a small way...it brings the valve of my 79 up but still... I am thinking that bring back the GTO might help but it will not be the same. I am also finding that they are making the cars very simalar...does anyone else see that. Look at the new Bonny and than look at the new Grand Prix and yet still the Grand Am. Thay all have a very simalar front end. Hell for that matter so does the new GTO. Well this is just me letting off a little steam,,,, so bare with me and have a good one ...Mike

We feel you pain. The GTO is clever, but looks like typical coupe. The T/A and Camaro built in Quebec are discontiued and the new GP looks like a GA that has been strecthed.

Get ready for the GXP lineup tho...

Yeah I wish the TA wasn't discontinued either, not that I'd get one. Maybe I would. I'd rather have a Bonne.

But what Pontiac (GM) really did wrong was the Aztec!!! Now THAT was a BIG mistake.

It did bother me, but I'm kinda getting over it. Rumor is it will be brought back in a few years. I'm still gonna buy one some day though.

I see you said that you own a 79...my god thats my FAVORITE year! Post pictures.

I have heard that it is to return as well....but when. I will have to buy one, I have been a pontiac man for sometime now and I have owned a variety of cars but they have been my favorite. Like I have mention my 79 is a 10th Anniversary so it is my baby. I did enought to the 403olds to get it to run 12.87 in the 1/4. That is good with a window main in it,,,lol. I have heard that the bonnie will do in the 14'* and maybe faster...that would be cool.

You need to check out Scott Cooks SSEi. It ran 11.020 in the 1/4--street legal. Go to Intense racing in the links and you will see a pic and his times. I believe someone else is driving it now, but it is on that site. Scott is a member here and goes by the name BadSSEi.

Hey bud. Another fellow Pontiac lover. Welcome to the club.
My 79 Formula T/A is my baby too. Sounds like you've modded your 403 a little more than mine. I'm working on beating my Bird with my SSEi real soon.

I was listening to Bob and Tom this morning (funny show if you like crude humor, definity "male oriented") and they had on the news that pontiac was going to rename the Grand Am soon to try to appeal to younger buyers. They didnt have a possible new name, but apparently this is going to happen to alot of the cars that are coming out of detroit (Ford and GM are making changes).

Unfortunately, they're going to have to do a bit more than rename their cars to get younger interest. I have heard of a study GM did recently where they showed a concept car (don't remember which one...maybe the GTO?) to two groups of people. The first group was shown the car with all Pontiac markings removed, and it got great reviews; for the second group they put the Pontiac markings back and most people (guys especially) rated it significantly lower than the first! Very sad how much people stereotype Pontiac as "old people cars". We Bonneville owners have come across the stereotype many times (and we like it because it gives it the "sleeper" effect; but it is bad for Pontiac, and occasionally annoying).
