Just received a savings bond that my grandmother sent to my family, to be given to me when i turned 21. It is only $50, but it is dated 10/1991. Do these generate interest? Only good for face value? What do you do to find out what it is worth?

any bank will be able to tell you what it is worth.

I once cashed one of those... stupid mistake, it had interest of like $10.

put it away somewhere that you will not remember for a long time

just found out on the us treasury website. Just over $60 is the total value.
