Dan... Dan ...Dan.. you criminal. When I was underage and not drinking at all yet, I got a letter (around the same time I got a ticket) regarding the underage drinking incident and my license hearing etc A call or two and it was straightened out. Apparently someone put my ticket in the wrong "pile".
I somehow got pulled over for making a left on a yellow. Believe it or not..that is against the law ....kinda. Cop must have heard the whine coming off the 2.9" pulley and well... yeah. Plead not guilty and never heard back. A year later I get a subpeona for not appearing at my date. I called it in and found out they sent the date to an address 5 towns over w/o my name nor anything on it. So the next day it was my responsibility to go help the state figure out their mistake.
It'* such a one sided world with us being guilty and responsible for all the errors that occur until we prove otherwise.

Went in to the DMV right away this morning. Showed the lady the ticket. She made a phone call, and about 2 minuets later it was all taken care of. No explanation, just said it was an error. Now why couldn't the cop have done this. Hi, this is officer so and so, can you check this report? Thanks. OK, looks like it'* in error. Thanks you. Here you go sire, sorry for the delay.

The system is messed up. I've had my driving record messed up for a long time because some people can't get their stuff together.
I was driving to work, and got pulled over for missed inspection. Not a huge deal, but the cop took a long time to come back up. He comes to the window and asks me "Do you know you're driving on a suspended license?" Excuse me? "For a failure to appear in town court on a speeding ticket" Nice guy though, says he has another call, and tells me to go to work, that it sounds like a paperwork mess up. Just let me go on into work and tells me to take care of it ASAP.
So, the whole thing came about because I got 2 speeding tickets in 01 (yes 10 years ago), and hired a lawyer to take care of them. He got one done, and the other, he never showed for court. Fast forward 5 years later, new judge, new court staff. They find this old case still open, and decide to suspend my license. Too bad they sent the notice to my address as it was when the ticket was written, and not my current on file address.
I show up for court, judge was decent about it, and even took the time to look over the letter my lawyer handed over, which even proved he knew about my license suspension, and never said peep to me. Judge says in his opinion, he would drop the case.
So I go to court for the 3rd degree AUO (yes, a misdemeanor), and go before the judge. He seems sympathetic at first. Listening to my explanation of events, and how my lawyer fudged up. Then he finds out who my lawyer was, and completely changes his tune, throws the book at me, and tells me hes doing me a favor and not sending me to jail. Apparently they are golfing and drinking buddies. Ain't that some stuff?
So I've had a 3rd degree AUO on my record for awhile. Couldn't get any other jobs, since they would always ask. Was close to getting a few decent jobs at some auto places, but the AUO charge would always kick me out of the running.
I was lucky. The company I'm with now wanted that info as well, but it had recently dropped off my drivers record. Finally.

Funny how the different State Government Branches work, and not together.
From 84-89 I was freshly divorced and doing some long distance state hopping for where the best construction opportunities were. I neglected to renew my Colorado license in 87 and was always going to "get around to it". Settled back down and got a house in New York and had to switch to NYS insurance which insisted on a NYS DL. Went down to get it all straightened out and Colorado DMV told them I didn't exist, and they had no record of me. I inquired to them and was told I may have been dumped when they converted their records from microfiche. I had to start fresh, take a Safety course with teens, and re-certify for CDL. Fast forward to 2006. I get caught street racing, end up in a hick town court, and the DA drops 11 pages of driving convictions on the Judges table at sentencing. Most from my early years (70'*), and from where? Colorado. ???

I got an apology letter from the DMV today. Talk about fast. They say there was a error and they are very sorry for any inconvenience that this error may have cause. Ya, thanks. Now I still have to waste my time to get the ticket removed.
