Memory Card Issue
The other day, I went to Wally World, and picked up a Sandisk 4GB MicroSD card. That is well and good, stuck it in my phone, phone recognizes it exactly as it should. It can read/write to it, and shows the correct capacity. Phone is a Pantech Impact BTW. I stick the card in my card reader with the SD adapter, and the card is not recognized, gives something similar to an I/O error. I figured the adapter was bad, and took it apart. No obvious reason for failure. I even stuck the card/adapter combo in an old camera I had, camera locked up. I tried a different card adapter, and same story. Different card reader, same story. I have a 2gb that works perfectly fine with everything. I don't understand it. It seems like the memory card is bad, but why does my phone use it with no issue? This has been driving me crazy for the last week, as I want to load up the card with music and stuff, and stick it in my phone, but can't.

4gb cards are sdhc while 2gb are sd. sdhc card readers can read sd but sd card readers cannot read sdhc unless there is a firmware update (for the card reader) that enables it.

I was figuring it was something stupid like that. I will have to look further in to that then. Guess that is what I get for buying a memory card in the price curve.

Naw, technology moves forward and the old stuff becomes obsolete. You just need new card readers.
I use this one myself which also supports the newest sd standard: sdxc. and so far its works great with all my sd & sdhc cards.
