Graduated from OSU in 1991. (Took me six years.) Been waiting for this game all week. The wife bought all sorts of game-day food; hot wings, chips, salsa, cheese dip, sandwiches, etc. I worked late last night. Got home about 10:00pm, the wife tells me "Oh, and there'* something wrong with the television." -It won't turn on. I'm an ex-electronics technician, so this morning I take it apart. I get it to turn on, but the picture is not completely right, after turning it off it doesn't turn on properly, you turn it on, it shuts back off. Flyback is making noises, Google shows some issues with the power supply circuitry. I mentally calculate what it will cost me to spend the time and effort fixing it myself -vs- paying a local shop and decide to let a local shop deal with it. Television is five years old, 32 inch Panasonic Tau monitor flat CRT, thing must weigh as much as I do. TV shop was already closed when I called, but told me to bring it in anyway if I could be there within 30 minutes. Wife worked at night so she'* asleep. My buddy had to work today, neighbors aren't home, nobody to borrow a truck from.
I pull my Bonneville up to the front walkway. I get the TV off its stand and drag it to the front door. Drag it on top of a broken down cardboard box to my car. Decide to use the trunk. Heft the thing front-forward into the trunk, close the trunk lid as much as possible (which isn't very), and use 4 bungee cords to hold it down. Drive carefully to shop and drop it off. Go back home.
I wind up watching the "Game of the year" (Ohio State is ranked #1, Texas is ranked #2) on a 14" LCD flat screen TV. Yeah. 14".
I think TVs know when the big game is on and choose that time to fail. How many times have you heard of a TV failing the day of the Superbowl or some other big game?
Anyway, Buckeyes won. Hooray!
