What kind of brakes are these
I found out my BMW has Single-piston swing-caliper disc brakes. I assumed more pistons the better the brakes but now I am confused. Anyone know what kind of brakes these are.

I have never heard of a swing-caliper. A sliding or floating caliper is standard on all but a few sports cars.
A floating caliper (one or two piston) is generally less expensive and has better clearance for the inside of the wheel.
A fixed caliper with opposing pistons (2,4,6) is more ridged, lighter, expensive and, has more even pad pressure and wear.

Because it'* a BMW...
Seriously though, I have heard that those things aren't the easiest or cheapest things to repair. And that they need repair often.
