The Name "Bonneville"...

The Name "Bonneville"...
Means "good city" in French. I think.
In my opinion, it'* a horribly dorky name for such a cool ride. It just adds to this 'old-lady car' image that Bonnevilles seem to have to the 'uninitiated'. (read: senseless fools).
I have three questions, all of which are pointless but nonetheless fun.
1) Am I the only one who feels this way?
2) Why was the Bonneville named what it was? (your own weird theories are just as welcome as the actual truth behind the name)
3) If you could name the Bonneville model something else, what would you call it?

I agree, the name does not fit the car, or the car doesnt fit the name, something like that. I suppose it was meant to sound kinda classy or elegant back in the day, now it sounds kinda old. I remember how before we got our first one (the '97), I was a little dissapointed, but I had also never ridden in one. I thought "Bonneville...sounds dumb, I bet it sucks." I am now a very happy person with my bonnie, but the name doesnt do much for me either.

I believe that Bonneville is classy, but still rough around the edges. It'* different, not like something silly like "Focus" or "Neon" Where the heck do they get some names..

The name to me does fit the car. Saying Pontiac Bonneville just doesn't sound right. Pontiac Grand Am or Grand Prix just rolls right of the tongue. Pontiac Bonneville sounds foreign.

I agree with nine-three, I like tha word actually, to answer ur question though NW I couldn't think of another name to call it, and Al'* correct tha car was named somethin else at the time (I don't remember but it was somethin about numbers with tha original name) yea, Pontiac at tha time really didn't have a name for tha car so by it perform'n so well at tha bonneville salt flats thats what they named it after,

Go back to 1957 and think what "Bonneville" meant when the car first came out. Sounds very intimidating and forboding if you ask me. No days almost all people think "granny car" right away because most of them in the 70-80'* were driven by older people.
