NASCAR consistent in its Inconsistency
Well, for those of you who watched the race Sunday, I am sure you were excited about the nice little incident with Jaun Pablo and Harvick. I know I was. For those who didn't see it, shame on you!!!
Here'* a link to the video just in case http://www.nascar.com/video/cup/2007...ml?MostPopular
Here'* the article about what happened. http://www.nascar.com/2007/news/head...len/index.html
I have to say this was one of the most interesting things to happen to NASCAR in the few years I have been a fan.
Anyway, saw this morning that NASCAR is planning NO penalties for the incident.
Don't get me wrong, I LOVED it, and I think this is what Cup racing needs, and what we fans want. My thing is that they are so quick to throw out penalties for seemingly much less actions, but nothing for this????
I personally think Harvick should have MAYBE gotten a slap on the wrists for pulling in front of Montoya, and Montoya gotten some kind of Penalty (points, fine) for shoving Harvick, if NASCAR wanted to be consistent in its enforcement, which, as we all know, will NEVER hapen.
Actaully, up to this point, I thought they were doing good as far as consistency, but, guess not.
What do you think???

The cause of the incident was Montoya'* fault. You don't block on a restart when you know you have a lower first gear than EVERY OTHER CAR ON THE TRACK, which is what Truex KNEW, and WHY he pulled inside on the restart. Then Montoya blocks going into turn 1, brakes entering the turn too late, wheelhops it, and gets turned. What did he expect?
Harvick was correct in his statement that Montoya dumps someone almost every race.
Montoya was wrong to grab Harvick'* helmet.
I don't think fines were necessary. Nothing really happened. As Stewart said after the race, If they'd been serious, they would have taken their helmet'* off first.

Did anyone hear about Robby Gordon at the Busch race last week??? LOL
http://www.usatoday.com/sports/motor...uspended_N.htm
Gordon was infuriated when NASCAR ordered him to restart 13th for the final two laps. He had just passed Australian Marcos Ambrose for the lead when a multiple-car pileup brought out a yellow flag, but Ambrose knocked him out of the way a few seconds later to reclaim the lead. Gordon was idling sideways as the field roared by him.
Kevin Harvick, involved in that melee, went on to win the race after Gordon refused to retreat from the second position on the final restart and spun Ambrose.
Ambrose, who led a race-high 37 laps, was on the verge of his first Busch Series victory.
NASCAR officials black-flagged Gordon, but he refused to pull off the track. He finished the race ahead of the field and performed celebratory burnouts before being summoned to the NASCAR hauler for reprimand.
"We came here to win the race, and that'* what we did," Gordon said after being placed 18th based on the laps completed. "I did the most laps. I had the first car to complete them; I won the race.
"They (NASCAR) put me in a position to act the way I did with the call they made under the caution."
Gordon, who met with NASCAR officials Sunday, said NASCAR would permit him to race on the road course at Watkins Glen International next week but he expected to be placed on probation and receive other Busch Series penalties. Tharp said his status for Watkins Glen remained under review.
Tharp quoted the rule book when making his announcement, stating that NASCAR may take emergency action against any driver who "constitutes a threat to the orderly conduct of the event."
"The way he performed and his actions on the track, in our mind, certainly disrupted the conduct of that event," he said. "We're not going to permit that, we're not going to allow that."
Gordon celebrated as if he had won at Montreal, doing victory burnouts and pumping his fist at the crowd at the same time as Harvick.

Yeah, I do not htink fines were necessary, just thought they'd happen since NASCAR seems to make a big deal about everything.
And, yup, Montoya seems to cause a wreck every race, even hiw own teammates arent safe. Kind of reminds me of Kyle Busch, tons of talent and no sense.
As far as Robby Gordon last week , yeah that was pretty good too.
I have to sya, I have seen interviews with him and I kind of understand where he was coming from, and he handled the situation well when it was all said and done.

I think he should get some penalties, I think he'* a good driver, you were right about NASCAR being incosistant
I missed what happened to cause the red flag, what happened, or was it just from all of those crashes in the same spot
Did anybody see the guy run onto the track to get an autograph, did he get kicked out for that?

Montoya had the inside line, the car behind him gave him a good tap going into the corner.
You don't brake and let someone in when you're holding the inside when RACING, and he couldn't have slowed down with the car behind him pushing him through the bend.
Harvick'* dive for the apex was over optimistic at best.

Sorry but IMO NASCAR needs this type of action... things have been getting boring over the last few years.

Harvick gets zero blame. Montoya spun around to hit him. Harvick could not see a car on the inside. They have no mirror there.
