Hamsters, gerbils, mice and guinea pigs make for great teaching pets for kids. I had my share growing up and I think it helped me to be a responsible pet owner as an adult. Nice choice Tommy!

Congratulations on the hamster, I guess.
I like quiet, fuzzy pets like cats and hamsters, but I could never own one. Too much feeding, watering, waste removal, vet trips, chew toys, clawed furniture, etc. That'* why I prefer to just borrow other people'* pets: go to someone'* house, play with it until it'* tired, and then let the owner go take care of it.
I'm sure I'll change my tune in a few years, especially if I get married and pressured into having kids.

my niece was all excited about getting a hamster a couple weeks back. I told her "TJ (our cat, named after a Jeep) loves hamsters, he eats them like twinkies." she didn't think that was too funny.
