I love my Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ20. 12x zoom, and digital stabilzation. It doesn't have changeable lenses, but does everything that I need it to do.
Good luck...I hope that it works out for you.

As Sol stated, I am partial to Canon also. Took this pic this morning with a Canon 50mm 1.4 lens I got last week.

The standard lens on my Minolta film SLR is a 50mm 1.7 (AF). It'* 20 years old, pretty good for its age... I can't really tell actually, just 4x6 prints are developed most of the time.

You proabably can't go wrong with Sony'* most expensive offerings... specifically those with the Carl Zeiss lenses. I'm not too fond of the low end models, but pay a little more and you can get something pretty sweet.

http://www.olympusamerica.com/cpg_se...p?product=1189
my wife really wanted it so that means we got it. we spent more but we got a really nice camara. i really like it. its got alot of options and im gonna have to see if sol will teach me how to use it cuz u can control alot more of it then my old sony but it is leaps and bounds better then my sony. it was kinda of a splure of the moment cuz i wanted the canon 610 that sol said was good then she found this one and we got it. i didnt get a chance to reserch it cuz thats the one that she wanted and u married guys know "what she wants she gets" but i just wanted to update u all. ill be taking some sample pics one of these days its gonna snow tonight and tomrrow so i dont know when.

That looks nice. Tons of features for sure. You have a manual mode on there so it'* like a quasi-SLR. It has a good range too, 38 - 380mm. Not very wide, but a good range still. You might wanna consider getting that wide angle converter if you travel, so you can get some nice landscape / cityscape shots.
