need computer help! (update: now browsing with Firefox)
I am writing this from the public library cause my computer won't cooperate with me, and I am looking for a little help.
What do you do when your current web browser crashes? As soon as my current version of IE comes up, I get an error message saying illegal operation. I can't download a newer, clean version of IE, cause the current browser won't work! Kinda' like a catch 22.
Any ideas? or websites that might be of help?
thanks

You should be able to fix it with your Windows CD.
Sounds like you been hacked/virused by an Anti-MS guerilla, since Explorer pretty much runs your whole computer

If your library allows downloading, CompUSA, or one of the office stores, has JumpDrives on sale super cheap. Download an alternate browser (firefox, opera, whatever) on to one of them, carry it home and install it.

haha, do you have a 5000 series presario?
but umm, if you have 512 mb of memory in there I would recommend upgrading to Windows XP, DOS based OSs are not stable, get something NT based in there. soon. whether that be Windows 2000 or w/e

Well, I would have to say the six years of continuous operation without ever having to refresh the OS is pretty darned stable.
Anyway, the library does not allow downloading, so it'* off to a friend'* house with a CD for a little help.
Thanks, guys. If you don't see me around for a couple of days, it'* because I'm out shopping for hardware/software.

could try and reinstall IE, from another PC get the isetup.exe from microsoft website and try see if it will reinstall. (sometimes I've had to edit the reg to change the install status of IE to get it to install again if you have the most current version.)
IE 6 setup file
File itself should be about 480k and without the browser working it should connect and redownload the IE files.
