Default Darn darn darn!

Out in the garage today, playing around with a boat trailer that I'm converting over to a regular flat bed trailer. Been using some of my air tools when the air compressor kicks on and then starts making a weird blat blat blat noise. Uh oh.
Take the compressor apart, found that the seal around the piston blew out. (this is a oil-free compressor). Hmmm, I still have the parts manual for it, I wonder if I can just replace the seal. Nope. Can't even get the seal off the piston. Looks like a two piece design that was compressed together at the factory. Ok, what about replacing the piston? Nope. Can't do that either. Only way to order that 50cent seal is to order the entire motor/pump assembly. $265! I paid $300 for the whole aircompressor and tools at Lowes!

I wonder what PSI a 4hp Briggs and Stratton engine can tolerate if I use it as the compressor. If I use the electric motor from the original pump. Connect a line to the exhaust port and then to the tank. They are pretty much the same as a single stage oiled pump aren't they?

I guess that will work, not sure how tight the seal will be when compressing the air.
