its actually gonna be gloss black... there is a business around here called rent-a-geek that does computer services, they use shitty vans painted flat black...i dont wanna look like one of them... im hoping with all the sanding that the paint will actually look good

I forgot to mention...since you are doing body work, I believe 90 or 91 C/Vs have different bumpers and wrap-around extensions. (Compare a 89 Golf/Jetta to a 92 and you will see what I mean). It will make for a much nicer look. Also, I think Erebuni (sp?) made a body kit some time ago for them...mostly bought up by conversion companies for handicapped conversions.
