Nice looking car. Everytime I see one of these I'm reminded of when this older lady came into my office. My co-worker was trying to quote her auto insurance. When asked what she had she said it was a gooley. My co-worker was still kind of new and was looking all over the rate book for this vehicle. She finally went outside to look at it and came back in and said "Ma'am it is a 6000 LE."

What years were the AWD versions available? Did it have the 2.8L or something bigger powering them?
2.8 were the rage then. AWDs had 2.8s too I think that cars and the celebrity Eurosport with the 2.8 were some of the nicest cars back then.

the AWD 6k'* have the 3.1 MPFI, the 2.8 isnt powerful enough for an awd drivetrain.

and the awd ran from 88-91 i think

I went to look at a used 6000 STE AWD and it had a 2.8

Like you said they ran from 88 - 91. Was the 90 and/or 91 version a */E because GP took over the STE name?

The AWD started in 1988, but the 1988'* are ULTRA rare and are very hard to come by. The STE AWD name went up to 1990 when it changed to the */E AWD.

Sorry about bringing up an old thread, but I just wanted to clarify some misinformation.

AWD production numbers:

'88 - 124 STEs (AWD was an option)
'89 - 1,376 STEs (AWD was standard)
'90 - Unknown SEs (production numbers were not separated from FWD model. 5599 total SEs)

Every AWD 6000 came with the 3.1MPFI V6 (the '88 AWD STE was the first GM to use a 3.1). They also all used a modified version of the same THM125C 3-speed trans that came in the FWD models. '89 was the last year for the STE package on the 6000, as that trim package was moved to the Grand Prix, which Pontiac was trying to push at that time.
