Default need help with my sony tv.

hi i have a 36'' sony tv in my living room.. its from 1997 and worked fine untill yesterday.. just yesterday the picture started flickering and going into what i call
( dvd mode). the picture flickers and shrinks to about 5'' from the top and 5'' from the bottom of the screen.. looks like watching a certain dvd that dont fill the whole screen..

i have found 1 way to fix the problem (smack it on the side) but its only temporary untill an hour or 2 later. then does it again..

is it just something inside that might just need tightening.? this thing is about 250 pounds or so, so there is no way i can fit it in my car or even lift it to take it to the repair shop 2 hours away.....

You just need one of these. LOL

Sounds like your Vertical output IC needs to be resoldered

yeah those 36' tube tv'* are heavy beasts. My Mom just got a Samsung and even i was grunting getting up to her apt.

Call you local repair shops, some may have a pickup service.

Check out the repair cost when you call. many places have a 'we'll just fix it if its under $xxx and call you with an estimate if its over" policy and in my experience its always close to $xxx.

Seeing as its from '97 it probably isn't DTV so you may want to consider putting the repair money towards a new tv. My tv is a 98 Toshiba 32" and when it goes, its gone! That 36" Samsung my Mom got is really sweet and under $500.

You pull the circuit board out and resolder every thing in the vertical circuit.
