Like I said, the only thing that turned me off in the past was having to use the damn kernel to do everything. I haven't used it once yet!

I've been running Ubuntu as my primary OS (on my desktop and netbook) since 9.10. My girlfriend liked it so much that she had me put it on her laptop for her.

I don't play games anymore but if I wanted to, I have Wine and VirtualBox ready to go.

My opinion is that Linux is faster than Windows. It'* free. It does everything I need it to do. It'* customizable beyond belief. It has NEVER quit on me. No viruses, no random shut downs, no corrupted OS files. Nothing. Everything works out of the box, no drivers to install. No CD'* to search through to find the right files to get everything working.

There'* no way I'd ever pay the kind of money some people do for their OS. Before Linux, I used to get my Windows OS through some "other" means. Now, I get a solid, stable OS for absolutely nothing.

I won't buy a Mac, and will always avoid using one if possible. I don't have anything against the WIndows OS itself, I just don't like the big companies trying to control everything we do with proprietary software and ridiculous copyright enforcement "programs". Most people are totally honest about paying for all of the things they own, and wouldn't have a clue about how to illegally download things, so there'* no need to bother EVERYONE about it.

I guess I'm one of those people that likes to be different just because I can.

Yes, BT4 is mostly used as a network/wireless testing tool. I have discovered some things about my neighbors wireless networks that are pretty funny. One router I found used their home phone # as a password. Reverse lookup told me exactly where the house was.

(This) laptop uses XP and BT4, my wifes laptop uses Vista, kids computer uses XP, my desktop uses XP, my other desktop (depending on mood) will run XP pro, or Fedora Core 13 as a web server. Still tinkering around with running it as a server. When the funds come in better, I'm hoping to upgrade my Roadrunner to business class so I can get port 80 open and have a static IP.

So far, I have been impressed with XP'* lack of crashing. Well, at least since Win 98 and 95.

It'* coming to a head for sure. But I see Linux playing to the techies while the mainstream begins an all out slug fest. Especially with personal communications becoming so lucrative. I hear you about Google Jon.



With both using "legal(?) virus'* on each others chit, MS has been eyed taking Adobe out on secret dates. They have had thier own quarrels, but common enemies make for strange bedfellows. Maybe if Apple bedded down with Goggle, some real powerplays and melodrama nay come out of it. The sad thing is that none of this helps us as we try to surf the net across the different platforms used. I'm ready to go get some popcorn. Nothing like a real unscripted wrestling match.

I'm just your average college kid. I started playing with computers years ago, and just picked up stuff along the way. I was planning to major in computer science, but decided to go into retail instead. I can't stand writing code all day. I'd much rather get into hardware / repair type stuff but it doesn't really pay much around here.

Ah ok. I thought you were an IT guy. I admire the patience you have with Linux. I don't have that kind of patience, lol. If you gave me a laptop with linux on it working perfectly, I'd use it, but don't look at me to get it working on my own.
