my friend is contemplating selling his crappy elantra for either a 2006 Malibu MAXX with the 3.5L V6 or a G6 with that engine.

Sandrocks Malibu LTZ, is a great car to drive, rides good with a very mid grade firmness, not bone jarring stiff and not floaty, just a great mix...
The Fly by wire takes a bit of getting used to, and if you haven't driven a Modulated or highly controled trans Like the 4T45-E or 4T65-E, the way it acts will take a little getting used to..
Overall its a soild car, drives good, handles good, has more than ample power and is capeable of pretty good milage as well..
I would reccomend it

Last year my wife and I had a G6 as a rental car. We rented it in Little Rock, AR and drove to Galveston, TX. That motor in the G6 is INCREDIBLE! Talk about quick. There'* tons of torque and it pulls great (for a Grand Am, essentially). I was impressed for the 1,300 miles we put on that car.

My daughter has the 3.5 in her G6. I was duly impressed with the overall car including the driving response and power. It'* no SCed SSEi, but then you knew that.
