Siesta Key is a great choice. They have some of the softest white sand I've ever seen and it'* a very relaxed scene during the day, with at least some clubs to hit at nite.

They Florida Keys are amazing, but be prepared to shell out some serious cabbage for accomodations.

Especially the further south you go into the Keys.

Are you dead-set on January? The weather may not be all that hot (literally) during that time. We went to Ft. Lauderdale in Feb. last year and it was low 70s.

Tally is a very beautiful place to visit. There are many state parks/springs, your not too far from the beach (and the gulf is pretty + a slight chance of seeing manatees), and there are a couple BIG malls. The largest is called the Goveners Mall.

Edit: Oh and St. Augustine is the oldest city, with many forts, old shops, and some really nice beaches. Besides the beach, you are also right on the intercoastal waterway, which is pretty neat. My aunt has a condo there, and i love traveling down.

LOL, it is funny you say that. It was just like that in mrytle.

When i was a kid and went to FL, we went from december to january. We were in the pool, shorts and everything. Just living it up. Poeple were looking at us like we were crazy. They had coats on, pants and what not. It was like fricken 70'*, maybe even warmer. We were use to it being atleast 10 below zero that time of the year. It was pretty funny.

When i went as a kid, we went to melbourne FL. Seemed to be a decent area, but it was many years ago lol
