kit car vins
Just wondering how that works. I know you can make cobras out of foxbody mustangs, and I've even seen vipers made out of vettes. Would you keep the original vin, or don't they need one? It doesn't do much good since the car ends up (kinda) being something completely different than it started as.

The original VIN stays with the chassis. Most states have a Kit or Custom category to register vehicles, so that if/when you get pulled over the cops know why it looks so different.

Nowadays Most cobra'* are a full chassis where you toss in the 5.0 drivetrain. All of the Major brands like Factory Five Racing are pretty knowledgable about what to do. Best thing is to run to your licensing center or the DMV and ask the lovely ladies behind the counter.
I'd rather have cobra handling then fox body myself as well...

when you build a kit car you have to take it you (in my case ohio st patrol) and they check the car over. brakes lights steering and so on and then they issue it a new vin number but if you use a frame from another car u would use that vin number!!
hope this helps
