Default That was fun. (road conditions rant)

SO, i wake up, and i have to run out for an appointment. And its snowing. mmhmm...SO i get to the freeway...but i can't get on the freeway because the car is just spinning the tires....

SO i take the backroads to my appointment....wonderful idea.... going there..not too bad...on the way back? almost put the car in el ditcho 4 times. Now if you knew me well and drove with me in bad weather, you would know that i can control a car extraordinarily well in slippery weather...this was no exception, note the ALMOST before ditch, but it was close... i am running back that way later, i will take pics i almost put mah cah in an 8 foot ditch that...woulda been a bitch to get out.

but no, i mean damn, these roads are nasty, just hard packed snow...which is basically ice

i need snow tires.
i need ABS
i need traction control

on just about every turn, my back end goes fishtailing...its kind of annoying. i mean, i always recover well, but its not fun.

weather is good tho, i love snow. its gonna stay cold now, and the 10 day forecast shows 4 days of snow on the way this next week...i think i'm gonna stay of ze road. salt is my enemy anyways. but, hell, what can yah do when you HAVE to go places!

so then. anyone else enjoying their roads?

its a blast. my roommate got stuck twice yesterday.

i drove my fiancee to class yesterday and the day before because it wasnt really safe for her to drive [we agreed independantly that it would be better for me to drive given my experience with hazardous road conditions, and after she drove around the neighborhood to see what it felt like on the roads].

that said, ive almost gotten stuck a number of times and almost hit a tree pulling into my grandmothers driveway [note the almost]. before today, itd been almost 6 years since id fallen in ice - ive fallen twice today.

not driving yet today, but i work at 2. once i get out of the neighborhood itll be fine. main roads are almost perfect, but neighborhoods are still completely iced over.

and its snowing this weekend.

I've been avoiding my snow covered roads. Although, I think that has more to do with my missing side mirror then the ick covering the roads.

Don't have any ice here rigt now, and I am fine with that. Ice is just too slick. A good snowpacked road or parking lot is awsome though. Its enough that you can slide but not so slick that you can hardly control it. I have been enjoying the jeep, when the rear gets spinning it moves torque to the front. You can wag the tail all down the road in good control. It hard to resist going out behind the barn and doing doughnuts!
I never had much time in the bonneville in the snow. I had it through one winter but I was out fo state for work fo about 95% of it. I loved my 90 Lumina with snow tires on it. I had it when I was up at MTU. Best car I have ever driven in the snow. All my friends with trucks kept telling me to call them because they were sure I would get stuck, but it never happened. It took WORK to get the back end of it to slide out.
