Default How'* your gas mileage been lately (on any vehicle)

Hey everyone,
My dad, brother and I were just having a little talk about how none of our cars have been getting nearly the gas mileage they were a year ago, and how they have really lost their mpg after 9-11.
It seams that everyone we know has been complaining these last few months about how they are getting such poor mpg. Those that were getting 30 mpg are down in the 20-23 mpg area and that is really feathering the gas. Some, like my sister who has a 1997 Dodge Ram 5.9l has gone from 15.5 mpg down to 10-11.5. My dad'* Nissan has dropped from 35 down to 25 and I haven't heard of anyone (with the exception of the people driving GEO'*) that can hit the 30 mark.
Everyone that has said they gave their car'* tune-ups recently say they still are nowhere near where they used to be. I used to get 30-32 in my dad'* 1989 Lesabre (has only 50,xxx miles) when I would take that, but the last two times he'* let me use it (I usually use the 230k 1989 Lesabre) I always baby it and it still won't break 22 on the freeway at 70 mph. New plugs, wires, 02 sensor, air filter, fuel filter and pcv valve it hasn't improved more than 1 mpg dad said. Checked the codes and it'* all clear.
Anyhow, do you think that since 9-11 there has been a change in one of the fuel ingredients, or even something being left out/added?
Also, what gas station do you find you get the best mpg and running motor off their gas?

Well My old 1990 Cutlass ( recently departed and replaced with a 2003 Malibu LS) used to get between 370-380 miles to a tank ( highway ) , just recently took a road trip and only got about 310 miles ( highway). Given this was in the winter so gas mileage does go down, but still, it looks like a bigger difference to me in Kms ( I'm canadaian can't you tel, :? ) so the difference in kms would be that I used to get about 700 kms to a tank, and the road trip got about 500 kms.

Don't most of the gas stations have fuel injection additives in there gas already? If so why pay for something that is already included with the gas. And with gas prices rising why buy something you really don't need.

I've been topping out at 29 (cruise set at 70 on I-5). We're having a particularly mild winter, and I'm on new tires, so I'm still around that. My current tank looks like to be fairly close.....No freeway miles, all mixed, and I'm at 200 with just over a half tank left. No problems here.

You get 29 mpg with supercharged 3800 and Series 1 at that!?!!??! My mom drives a 1992 Park Avenue Ultra sc'd and she is lucky to break 20 mpg on the freeway. Her and dad drove out to the Grand Canyon and back to Minnesota last summer and with the cruise set at 65 they got 21 at the best. 92-93 octane all the way.
Also, my sister has a 1995 Riviera SC'd and she drives 90 miles on the freeway each day to and from work and she'* lucky to get 22-23. She took it out to Chicago once and set the cruise @ 72 mph and only got 24 and there was no stopping at all since she filled up at the gas station here in Sauk Centre, drove 1/2 block to I-94 and didn't get off till her low fuel light had been on for 35 miles.
Go figure!!! And you get 30!?!?!?!??
I don't understand.

Can't remember exactly, the last time I watched this was on a trip to CA last year. Really pushed the speeds on the way down, so that sucked (literally), but on the way back during the day, I kept it sane. Got well over 400. That was the trip I clocked my 29mpg for the first time. Right after the new tires, too. I duplicated the 29 in late December in Eastern Oregon. Had to nurse the car back after filling up with 87 octane. Didn't want to push the rpm'* with that crap in the car. I actually got 28.xxx something or other. Doing 60.

Anyone know what a stock 93 SSEi gets from the factory (window sticker numbers)?
Mine was getting 23/24ish when I bought it last May, and that was with plugs eroded to .090". The 2 biggest improvements to my mileage were from the airbox/filter mod (1-2mpg over 4 tanks) and the chip. Yes, I actually get better freeway mileage with the chip than I did before it (assuming I take my lead shoe off).

My milage is pretty bad right now. Cleaning the cone filter will fix that though. I doubt its the O2 sensor...now warning lights, no wierd smells, nothing exploding.
