From my experience, it depends on what the local police are willing to spend (or whoever gives them their budget). There is no one particular police package. They can order one from the factory, then farm it out from there locally if they want.
Or do like they supposedly do in Vegas, used confiscated cars that have already been modded. Put a bad guy in jail, put a car in the fleet...

Noone really uses the caprices anymore, they stopped making them with the police package, so every one uses the vics. I have heard from some cops that they dont like the impalas because they are too small and are front wheel drive. The vics will do around 130 or so, when they are newer, but start to slow down when they get older, i rode with a guy whos car was maybe 5 yrs old or something, 120000 miles and it would only do 113. Compared to most vehicles they arent that fast, but they have had a lot of training for defensive driving and stuff like that, and like its been mentioned before, there are a lot more of them so they can switch off whos pursuing, and you cant outrun the radio!

I'd like to get my hands on their 96- Caprice..
But sadly I think they're all gone.
And not all cops are trained to drive @ that speed correctly.. buddy of mine works for the Hamilton police and he says he'* seen so many cars come back with major damage for even tryin to get to a call.. Taxpayers money hard @ work
But sadly I think they're all gone.
