Default Gawd I'm in such a pickle....need insight

Ok, here is the situation I am facing right now. I currently work in Orlando but I have to commute to it..I live in Daytona Beach. This takes a total of 3 hours per day of work I have to do out of my personal time. At first, I stayed in a motel in Orlando but found I would be saving nearly 300 a month by renting back in Daytona, and this is after all the gas and tolls. Fast forward to the present. The apartment complex changed owners and now the rent has jumped from 650 to 900/month! Reason? To get everybody out of here so they can convert to condos. I can't afford to live in Orlando as the cost of living has gotten way too high and my employer seems to think a tech can surive on less than 36k a year in Orlando...yeah, right. Now then, for those not in the know, my career field is pretty narrow...its actually limited to big cities with big airports (simulator technician). Also, right now I am going through a lender for a home that only deals with Florida and Michigan, and I probably won't know anything about that for a month or so. I was told by her to not have anyone pull my credit because I need all the points I can get. So that pretty much means I can't go apartment hunting for at least that long. And due to the commute I have to do, I have no funds to speak of to do any kind of move. Period. We all have to be out of here in a few weeks or the rent will keep going up until everyone is out. Oh, and add to that one dead Bonneville that will have to get towed

Any insight on what I can do to ease all this stress?? Besides shooting myself?

They can rasie the rent up to 4 times per year. Half of the tennants have already either bugged out or plan to July 1 when the increase takes place. Why keep paying when this place is just gonna get converted in a few months anyways? Oh yeah, these new owners don't play around with late payments either. They have a full compliment of lawyers who will gladly take you to court if you don't pay.

I believe a landlord can only raise the rent by a certain percentage each year. What your landlord may be doing is Illegal.

Hope this site helps!!

http://realestate.findlaw.com/landlo...t-control.html

on the second page, enter your zip to find local laws governing rent control.

Maybe you can start a class action if you find your new landlord to be in the fault.

Good luck!!

: The District of Columbia and some municipalities in Massachusetts, New York, New Jersey, and California have passed rent control ordinances. Some state legislatures have outlawed local rent control ordinances. Perhaps 10 percent of the tenants in the country are covered by some form of rent control.
Florida has no such help I am afraid. Also, the previous owner let all the leases go out of term...meaning I am on a month-to-month basis. For those situations, there is very little legal protection other than w/holding rent if important things break and landlord takes time to fix it.

Titusville is an ideal area for me since I work in Orlando, and will more than likely look for a home there when my scores are up enough (divorce ruined that big time) if I can't find simtech work elsewhere. I did stumble across a condotel on the beach, all utes included, for 600 here in Daytona, and since it'* an owned unit, would not fall under price hikes for tourist crap. But I can't do that until August when my son goes back to Iowa. My biggest problem is that I can't save any money doing this commuting thing. Normally, I would have the cash in the bank so I could just get up and go...but not this time. Florida is getting way too expensive way too quick for average joe to keep up.
