Looks like I'm alone on this one, but I will take compassion on a soldier that decidely wont fight for something he doesnt believe in.
Call me a hippie liberal flower child, or whatever, but....I wouldnt fight for something I dont believe in. Its not worth it to argue my perspectives on this matter so I will slowly back away.
This of course coming from a non soldier

There is no Draft in the US anymore. They chose to join the Army. The Army makes no secrets about what it'* main job is, fighting. They then chose to break the law.
They used thier right to choose. They used it poorly. That'* why laws are written, to protect the rest of us from people that don't know how too choose their rights properly.
On a personal note, does nyone actually think that any soldier honestly looks forward to war? I was scared as hell, as were my troops. But we chose that life, knew our duties, knew we were the best trained Army in the world, and did our jobs. We didn't run and hide. We faced our fears and kicked ***

Sec. 502. - Enlistment oath:
Each person enlisting in an armed force shall take the following oath:''I, _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _, do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic, that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; and that I will obey the orders of the President of the United States and the orders of the officers appointed over me, according to regulations and the Uniform Code of Military Justice. So help me God.'' This oath may be taken before any commissioned officer of any armed force
Not a whole lot of choice given in that oath but they chose to say it so it'* on them now. They broke the faith. So if you guys like to take in our trash- so be it. If not throw them back over and were sorry they scraped their yellow bellies up there. Being that it'* not a "declared war" they can't be shot but I hear Ky. is nice this time of 2-10 years.
Again I've been in going on 14 years. So your idea and mine will differ and thats cool.

I'm split on this issue....
On one side I agree with most of you. They signed up for the military. They know what the military does, they fight. By signing up they agreed to defend the rights of this country and the rights of those that this country deems defendable. They had an obligation and they backed out on it at the critical time.
On the other hand I do agree with holding firm to your morals. If they do not beleive in what they are doing it can make it extremely difficult to do. There are many people in this country that are now questioning whether or not what we are doing over there is still true to the goals we set out on. I myself, am a non-violent person, but I will defend myself, my friends, family, and country as needed. I can only do that thought if what I am doind feels right to me.
Here is a short background on me so you can understand where I am coming from:
In the mid '90'* I looked into the armed forces (primarily AF pilot) but what I was told by the recruiter and what I found out on my own were 2 different things. Because I wasn't garunteed anything after I signed the paperwork I opted not to join and find other ways to help out. I didnt' fall for the gift of money to join up (may have been bad wording, but you get the point of it). I am not a religous person but I do believe very strongly in good morals. I don't oppse the war in Iraq, but I do question it, just like anyone should do. If we don't question it and think for ourselves, what are we fighting for then?
These are just my opinions and I hope not to offend anyone with them. I am sure I have a different piont of veiw than some one who actually served. I am not total oblivous to the military (some friends and family have served over the years), but I guess everyone has a right to their own.
