The misadventures of Mouse in Iraq
Ok, so here in this thread I'll try my best to keep you guys updated on how I'm doing on my way to and in Iraq.
So the whole thing started Thursday. They said I had to be at the Squadron by 1430 with my bags. I figure I'll show up early and just hang out for a bit right? Meh, not that great of an idea. I got there at 1400 because the wife is eternally late. No big deal though, they told me to be back at 1645. We go eat at one of my favorite places, and then come back. I'm only standing around maybe 30 minutes before I get on the bus and have to say bye to my wife and son. Sad moment here. We get to the processing place and I'm not on the list. OH NO! Actually, no big deal, they just add me. Sit around for about 3 hours, eat some pizza, listen to some Colonel tell us how proud he is....then we get on the plane. WOOOOO HOOOOOO! I love planes.
We chartered a big sucker too. 3 rows of seats, aisle, 4 more rows, another aisle, then 3 more rows. The plane is this way. Silly thing is, there'* only 130 of us on it. I guess they needed a big one though because we flew from the panhandle of Florida to Shannon, Ireland in one go.
Ok, 8 hours, 3 meals, 2 snacks, 4 sodas, 3 pee'*, and 2 naps later...we get to Ireland. Oh, I forgot the movie. They showed "The Blind Side" for us. Great movie that I've seen 3 times already. Anyway, we sit in terminal at Shanon'* airport for about 2 1/2 hours while the plane refuels and gets cleaned.
Back on the plane now, I decide I'm going to sleep some more. It'* a 7 hour flight from Ireland to Qatar. The movie'* include "Men Who Stare at Goats" and "Night at the museum 2". I didn't watch either since I was trying to sleep.
We get to Al Udied AB, Qatar. I get lucky and don't get stuck on baggage detail. We go process. It'* more drawn out then it needs to be and nobody gives directions well. Now, we just wait some more. Get on a bus that takes us to lodging. We get our bunks, I change and go eat some breakfast since it'* now 0500 local time. Get done with that and I go to sleep.
This leads to here, what I'm doing right now. Feel free to ask questions.
TIme until I'm back
