You guys ever get bored....
I did. And when I get bored I tend to crunch numbers and make formula'*. So... What'* more important to a guy on a budget than my money? It'* rather saddening. I started out making a spreadsheet to add up my hours and compute my pay. Rather easy, Converting time to decimal was just a google search away. Then I realized I should account for the deductions I suffer every pay period. IRS.gov, Here I come! Here'* the break down of my taxes:
Federal Income: $730 + 15% of remaining
Social Security: 6.2%
Medicare: 1.45%
Local Sales Tax: 8.25%
What does all that mean? If you work for $5.15/hr, You acually get to use $4.66 of that to buy things. Bad, but not too bad right? How'* about this; $5.15, Full time.
Gross Income: $9888
Federal Income: $2103.70
Social Security: $613.06
Medicare: $143.38
Net Income: $7027.87
But that'* not all, When I go to spend that money I pay a Sales Tax, which leaves me with; $6448.07. Well, that'* made my wallet a bit lighter. Gee, I wonder what I'm really working for per hour... $3.36/hr. 34.7572% goes to taxes! Yeah, I feel like going to work right now.
Maybe I should get into painting....

I haven't worked construction in almost a year
First I did construction for some amount of years that were never reported for $6/hr
Then I did three months of construction on the books for $7/hr
Then I read electric meters for nine month for $8/hr
Then I was a cashier at an Exxon for three months for $5.15/hr
Now I've moved up inside the company and manage two stores, yet still on "probationary" pay.
The only better jobs in the area are International Paper, which sucks; Cooper Tire, which is on strike right now; Domtar, which is hard as heck to get into; and an OCI Hosting/computer assembly place that they're getting ready to build near my house. It'* an area with a lot of entry level positions and few good paying jobs. $8/hr is darned good money here. Just look up a COL index. Your $11.17/hr is equal to my $8.

yeah it pisses me off too just knowing how much of my hard earned money goes to taxes. :( Guess working at a pizza place as a manager isn't so bad afterall. I do make 8.25/hr. Just until i get out of college. then I'll be out of there QUICK!
