Default Looking at a truck

A friend of mines Uncle has a 95 Ford F150 For sale that i have loved since i saw it.
It'* got a lift and off-road tires (not sure of sizes). Its got the 5.8L 351 Windsor. And my friend guesstimated about 125,000 miles
He is selling it and I'm really debating weather or not i want to buy it.
Its got a few things wrong w/ it (front axle'* mess up, missing side mirror, and some little minor things) He said he would repair everything thats broken and then sell it to me for $3,000.
I'd have to take out a loan. It would be the first car I've taken a loan out on. But hopefully the truck can last me through college. And i really want a 4x4, living in Northern Mi.

This is the only pic i have (cellphone) but I'm going out tomorrow, and hopefully i'll get some better pics.

I am so torn weather or not to buy it or not. I regretted selling my last 4x4, because i miss having fourwheel drive so much. It'd be nice to buy a truck that is already lifted and has good tires. and i know it'* done right. But theres the fact that i have to take a loan out and i will have higher insurance.

If i do get it it will not probably be for a while. Snow will probably fly before i get it.
I've got student loans, and a credit card i need to pay off (never own plastic it only gets you in trouble) Then i'm going to try and save up some so i don't have to take out such a big loan. But the truck isn't going anywhere.

Is there something wrong with your car right now? I learned this the hard way: if it ain't broke, don't fix it.

BTW, what kind of phone do you have, that picture is amazing for a camera phone

Nothing to major is wrong w/ the bonneville - i plan on keeping the bonneville. But i just really want a 4x4. I'm a truck guy at heart, and i really miss Four-Wheel-Drive. The bonneville will be my back up car.
And i know its blasphemy, but I'm getting kinda tired of a car. I feel more "comfortable" in a big truck. And up north here it is nice to have a 4x4 in winter (which is like 8 months out of the year ) And when its not winter theres always mud to play in

My phone is a Nokia 6126, i actually had to make the picture smaller... :P

I've gotta say, I LOVE that body of those F150s, In my opinion, there hasn't been a beautiful truck since. I've got a 95 RWD F150 with a 302 and an Auto (well, officially, it'* my dads) Very fun to drive. The mirror is no problem to fix. I say buy it.

Ask him if he will sell it to you as is. It should be cheaper without him fixing it, and you can do it on your schedule. I have found it is easier to make payments to a parts store on my schedule than it is to make payments to a bank on their schedule.

One thing to consider is it will only get 16mpg MAX and thats highway on a stock setup. It gets worse in the winter and you're already lifted with larger tires. I guesstimate 10-12mpg, so plan on spending 3 times as much on gas. If you're fine with that so am i. I love my 94 supercab 4x4. It rides rougher, naturally, but the view from up there is so much better!

Oh, make sure the recall has been taken care of and if it hasn't pop the hood and disconnect the sensor thats right on the master cylinder until you can get her in. If they are not sure then look at that sensors wiriing harness and see if an in-line fuse has been added.

yea i've already accepted the lower gas millage.

Is it OK to drive w/out the sensor?

as for fixing it myself. It wouldn't knock that much of the price, and i would feel a lot safer driving it knowing someone that knew what they were doing fixed it, and not me.

went out and looked at it today...
of course my mom takes the camera, so ihave to use my cell

Figured out it has 134,000 miles
It has 6" of lift 4" suspension 2" body. And 38" Tires.

It does need some work before it will be good enough in my eyes. Some rust on the bed, the tailgate is F'ed up as you can see in the pics. And it needs both mirrors, and a good thorough cleaning.

Pics:

I'm thinkin about offering him 2500 for it, because of the work that needs to be done.
I have to crunch all the numbers to make sure i will be able to afford it, and then go from there.
After taking it for a ride today, i really want it

Keep in mind also that with that lift, the truck will look horrible with tires any smaller then 35", and that may be pushing it. Those tires are NOT cheap either
