Pete,
http://www.bbb.org/ is always a good.... uh bargaining tool. Even a threat of a letter to the editor of a local newspaper will cause some bad press for any dealer, big or small. There was a B&B in my town that got screwed by a local heating oil company. They happened to have a letter sign on the front lawn that read "We hate our Cheshire Oil heating company". The sign was up for several months and the B&B was right on the highway. This is a little extreme, but it goes to show how far a bad word can go.

Good luck

UPDATE:

I called him this morning.

I told him about the keys.
He said he should have them on the other board...no problem.

I told him about the missing floor mats.
He asked if they were even in the car. He thought they weren't He asked if I looked in the trunk. I said yes. The floormats were all there, and the picture of the interior of my car on his website shows it

I asked him about the additional 1200 miles
"Oh it can't be that much." He said that 3 times. I reminded him it had 43K and now it has 44,287. He said AT MOST it was driven 600 miles for test drives (which I do not believe also). He said the cars are only driven for test drives. BUT when I explained that I found personal items and store-bought items in the car, he said the battery may have died a few times so they may have drove to Home Depot to grab some light bulbs to charge the battery. I guess that trip to and from Home Depot was 1000 miles (or the other 600 that'* unaccounted for by his words) He also said HE was the only one that drove it.

He said "I may have written the initial miles wrong when you brought it in. I'll check the sheet when I get back." So I am awaiting a phone call to hear the miles he claims was on it. Little does he know, I kept the original contract that we signed that had "43,100" on it.

I didn't get to tell him about the broken ventshade yet since he was at an auction. But he'* calling me back.

Thoughts on his BS anyone?

BBB

works wonders... trust me. Everytime I've had problems with a company, I just had to turn them into BBB and they'd call me in the next few days and clear everything up REAL quick...

Drove to Home Depot to charge the battery? What a load of BS!! You know darn well that if the battery did die, that they have a charger they can hook up as apposed to driving it to Home Depot.

Pete, At this point, I wouldnt go back and forth to let him "explain" his way out of this since you know for sure hes a liar from what he has told you so far.

The next conversation should be the threat to take action should he not replace/repair what was missing.

If he doesnt own up and compensate you, then follow through and file a report with the BBB and whomever else you need to file with.

These salesmen dont have any respect for any of the cars on their lot. The lot guys swap parts many times out of cars to "satisfy" the customer. missing an ashtray? thats okay, ill grab it from the other sebring on the lot etc etc.

Teach this dick a lesson!! Im serious about the 1000 flyers too!! Ive done this once a long long time ago, and it was very effective since others in the local area had similar complaints. (Maybe not a 1000 but around a 100

I interpreted his story about the "drive to Home Depot" as him jumping the dead battery in the lot, and then driving it to home Depot to let the battery / car run a while.

But I still don't believe it. There'* no way even 600 miles were from test drives. Test drives are usually short distances. But even with 12-mile test drives, it would mean 50 people drove my car. And after getting NO calls from him on offers, I know there'* no way 50 people were interested in my car. After all, no one really test-drives a car unless they have good interest in it, right? I unfortunately cannot prove how much was/wasn't for test drives. It just ticks me off that someone used it for personal reasons.

But the miles don't matter too much to me. I just want reimbursment for what'* missing and broken.

It'* 2:30 and no call back yet! Next conversation will be about reimbursment and future actions if I'm not satisfied.
