Sorry Steve, but that was not the point of your post. You started this post with what that rapper said (sorry I don't know who it was). You were the one who brought race into the issue. It is not a matter if the people could not get out. It is matter of the relief too a while in getting to the people.
What we do know is that the people are starting to get some relief, but still it is slow in coming. Race is not an issue here, it is people are dying, and instead of talking about what people are saying, do someting about it. Help out in anyway that you can. As I stated in a previous post, we are a world community, lets stop focusing on race, or whatever and start helping.

I'm not gonna read all the replies.
Here'* my stance on it.
Everyone is emotionally charged about this right now, so nobody is being rational.
What it all comes down to is:
Rich vs. Poor
Not race
I blame a lot of people for the poor rescue and recovery efforts, president included.

It would have proved a bigger point if instead of ranting on television like Kanye did, it he would have taken some of his money and went down there himself and helped out. that would have helped bring awareness to the issue more so than ranting on live TV.
And even though you didn't say specifically that it was a race issue, in quoting someone who IS saying it is a race issue, and putting a title saying that the person is saying what everyone is thinking, you associate yourself with his point of view, and therefore make it a race issue.
In doing a little more research, yes, aid did get to other disasters faster, such as andrew and hugo, but there is a large difference between the two: Water. For those storms, you didn't have the flooding you have. In those, you used a bulldozer to clear the road and then you got supplies to the people. With this one, you have water, and much of it too deep for most vehicles to pass through. This means the supplies cannot get to where they are needed until we can A) get a vehicle that can drive through it or B) remove the water. Since B is out of the question, we had to wait til the military could mobilize enough vehicles to make the trip and then get them there. And looking at them, they are not speedy vehicles, so it too a bit of time.
Another thing hampering the efforts as I stated earlier, is the people there. In the other disasters, people were helping one another out and working together to get stuff done. There was no looting and shooting at people. There were not people just sitting and waiting for help to come to them. The people actively went and did something to help. yes, there are some people in NO who are physically incapable of helping out, and that is fine, but at the same time there were enough people who could that didn't. They just sat with everyone else waiting for their aid to come, as if it was their god given right and they should be helped first.
