Default Getting back into shape

Well, I'm getting married in about 6 months, so Holly (my fiancee) and I decided we want to be in top physical form for the big day. I'm excited for the results at the end of the six month period, but getting back in the swing of working out is easier said then done. My arms are so sore it hurts to fully extend them! Today was my second day hitting the weights at the recreation center on campus, which means I have a rather long road ahead of me. But it'* all good. I'm sure I'll thank myself years down the road for developing healthy habits while I'm young. I'm right at 6 feet tall, and my playing weight for high school football a few years ago was roughly 195-200. I now weigh 210-215, so I've gained about 15 pounds depending on which way you look at it. My goal is to be back down in the 195-200 range by the time Holly and I get hitched (yee haw, country talk!). So anyway, I thought I'd start this thread and keep it updated as a way to publicly keep myself accountable for reaching my goal. Please post here if you have aspirations for a healthier lifestyle or if you're in the midst of meeting or maintaining a goal, whether it be exercising or anything else. These next few months will be tough to keep myself motivated, but it'll be fun, too. I'm looking forward to the challenge.

Thats good! Getting in shape is always tough, and a lot of people usually give up after the first week or two. I like to go to the gym a lot with the cardio workouts, then in my basement I will usually do pushups and situps every other day. Im not getting into all pro shape, but I like to stay healthy, and not be one of those people that is out of breath after you climb a flight of stairs. Are you after anything special in the end? You more focused on arms, chest, mid section, etc...?

Twister is right, it won't be easy. I have started to go to the gym and quit many times in the past. Well, at least I have a reason. I go to high school and I work part time. I am constantly overwhelmed with assignments, projects, and tests. But now I am taking swimming classes daily and I properly do my workout.

Would you like to share with us your age and your goal weight?

Yeah, Iowa State offers a lot of "freebies" like access to recreation centers on campus and different exercise programs. I use the term "freebies" loosely, because I know it'* included in my tuition. It just seems free after tuition is paid for and I don't have to hand them cash every time I want to run a lap, lol.

I mentioned this before, but my target weight is 195-200. I'm 21, so there'* no reason why I shouldn't be able to realize my goal before July 8th, which is the day of the wedding. I tend to focus more on arms and chest because those were always the areas I was good at lifting, but lately I've given more attention to my legs. I severed my ACL during a football game when I was a senior in high school and had reconstructive surgery in 2001, and then a few weeks ago I had arthroscopic surgery in the same knee to correct a small problem with my meniscus. Basically it all adds up to a left leg that only has about 85% of the strength of my right leg, so I've been doing some leg curls and extensions to strengthen my quads and hamstrings. I also need to do some cardio, as I've lost quite a bit of my stamina due to inactivity while I've been in college.

I really NEED to get into shape too. My Junior Year of highschool I was 170 pounds at 6 foot tall. Now I'm 6' 1" and I'm 200 (freshman in college.) I really want to get back down to 170. I'm not fat, I just want to get lean and not have the extra "flab." People always tell me I look skinny now as-is but those are the ones who haven't seen me without the shirt on. lol. Thats my biggest reason for wanting to do it, I want to look and feel good. (again.)

College has left its mark on me. When I came here (fall 03) I was 5'11 145lbs. Now I'm at 160. It'* not bad, but I don't want to get any heavier. 160 is a good weight for me.

If you want to gain weight, I would suggest lifting. You would have an easier time gaining weight that way, rather then doing cardio workouts. And it dont have to be lifting to be Mr. Universe, but a simple 25 minute workout on the machines would help. This is all taking in affect you eat a little more too, which you shouldnt have any problems with.
