KMart hasn't always been a dump. I remember when I was a kid, that was the place to go. The one or two left up here are dumps, though.

I've had the exact opposite experience as Marik. The WalMarts OI go to are clean, well lit, great people working there, and self-checkout when I wanna grab and go. The Kmarts are somewhere between a dump and a dungeon. Dirty, dark, and most of the employees kinda give me the heeby-jeebies....

I just go late at night before closing so there'* no stupid people in line (if there is anything dumber than the Walmart cash register, it'* the Walmart average shopper) and do whatever I needed to do.

The only thing I go there for is shower stuff because it'* way cheaper, and film development because it'* way cheaper.

No offense to you Walmart fans...but it'* true where I'm at.

I can't stand Wal-Mart but I still go there because around here you can't really beat the prices.

Then you have towns like mine where wal mart is the only game in town for some items. Unless you want to drive to a larger city. Here we get all kinds, our wal mart is usually full of ordinary people, encompassing a wide range of class. Friday night shopping is almost a social event from seeing everyone you know. Just as likely to see a new Cadillac as a rusty pickup in the parking lot.

Having said that, If I have a choice to support a local merchant, I will, but its getting tougher in a town thats full of nothing but mostly corporate chains these days. Kmart here closed in 2000-ish and the old building was remodeled into a Dollar Tree, a Goodys and a few other little shops.

The closest K-mart is about 20 miles away and the only reason to go there is the meat prices

Unless it'* something I REALLY need and only wal-mart has it,I go to my local Dollar General

(Besides,my fiancee is the DG manager)

my local kmart used to be the best store around until walmart and target came into town. Now there'* usually one check out line open, and usually a senior citizen that moves really slow. Besides the checkout issues, the store is always a mess, and always dirty, reminds me of going into discounted stores that are going out of business that let the shelves go empty. Walmart is the best place to go around here, not saying I like them the best.

Target > *

Walmarts have a lot of shady ppl at them in Kato, or the Cities, I only like to go there for the Mobil 1 5qt Jugs.

K-mart, well, they redid the one in Burnsville nicely, but it had a lot of dumb ppl at it like you guys mentioned, and they're on the way out before they redid it.

Scary experience was @ the National Solstice Convention last year in KC, we drove a few miles south of our hotel Accross the street from Arrowhead/Kauffman stadiums, and went into a Kmart to get some supplies. Me and My dad had to have been the only Caucasians there, in a shiney red sports car no less, geting a lot of bad looks.

Sorta Similar to when we had to fix smellbird'* SLE in a chicago suburb @ night.

never crowded, i'm in and out, never have to deal with welfare mom, or the enormous fat lady on the cart.

Marik

Despite my thoughts concerning walmart or Kmart I personally hope that some day you realize there are "enormous fat ladies" in every store and some of them happen to be in those chairs for good reasons. And it'* NOT because they're fat. My wife uses those things because she is handicapped and she got fat after she was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis. It is comments like yours that make my wife'* life miserable. She didn't do anything to you to deserve such comments. My wife can not exercise because she can barely walk. I understand there are people who are just lazy but everybody needs to know "you can't judge a book by it'* cover" You would not know my wife is handicapped by looking her.. by your comments you just see a fat lady.
Comments like yours come out of people mouths and show in their looks and attitudes towards people... what do you want my wife to do.. wear a sign " I'm not fat I'm handicapped" ?

On subject.. Wally world used to say if there were more than 4 people in line they would open another register....NOT !!!!

I do shop there more even though it'* further away.. I just got used to having more stuff that I needed. They have redone the Kmart nearer to me and I should give it another chance.
