Is Elgin the name of that city from Wayne'* World? Cause where ever that city is, We got to see THE house.

Nothing like a stigmatized community. The town I grew up in always looked down on the
"east side" where I grew up and actually lived until two years ago. Never thought it was that bad, I wasnt afraid to walk outside or anything, but you simply didnt leave your car unlocked. It was always the subject of city council focus groups, the newspapers would have to put "east side" somewhere in the headline when crimes occured, such as" east side crime rate up this year" or something. Kinda got me to see that. Now I have to make 3-4 trips a week back to the same town and I find myself not stopping at my usual places for a drink or gas, keeping the car doors locked while driving and I didnt even realize I was doing this until the other day, when I passed my old elementary school, saw a group of kids standing there and rechecked the car doors! why I am acting this way is beyond me, I still have near and dear friends and family living in the same area!
Now I have something to keep me up tonite thinking about

Thats just it, I dont have a good reason to lock the doors, I still know lots of people there too LOL. I mean it IS a shabby LOOKING side of town in some areas but two years ago I was walking those same streets with no fear. Maybe its because I moved to a smaller town with very little division between the classes and everything in my old town seems foreign to me. Drove by my grandpas old house the other day, its been sold for 3 years and looks nothing like what I was used to. Felt strange to even be driving by, when as a child I spend many hours on the sidwalks.
Geez maybe I am looking down my nose at my roots and if thats what I am doing, I am changing, because thats not who I am at all
