That is one of the many reasons I'm glad I don't work at a car dealership anymore... Those people are the scum of the earth, and they'll do anything to leech all the money they can from you. Just horrible...

I blame the buyer in this case. she knew she couldn't afford it in the first place.

I agree. Of course, the dealer shouldn't have done that knowing that she couldn't afford it, but it is her fault. She knows what her income is and she knew what the payment was before she ever signed off.

As far as I'm concerned, all parties are to blame, but the bottom line, she signed the contract and shouldn't be living beyond her means. It amazed me that some.....and I say ....some people don't have a clue about there finances.

Part of the reason our economy is in the dumps is because of idiot people like her who think that they can afford expensive cars yet only earn a poor wage.

Blame the buyer for her stupidity more than the greed of the dealership.

There'* a family about a mile away that just had his house foreclosed. 1.2 million dollar home, 4500 sq ft., 4 floors and a theater. According to the papers, the guy only made 75k dollars last year.

And yes, I do believe it was both parties, but I still think that it was the dealer'* job to tell her what she could afford. She could have easily gone home with a 3-series, even though she probably couldn't afford that either, but they were greedy (like all sales people) and wanted more money from her. High ticket specialty cars like that have a HUUUUUUUGE margin on that. The guy probably made 2-3k just from that one sale...

The thing is, when you go to a dealer, you get caught in the "heat of the moment." We were taught to take advantage of that. To not let them get away. "Well, why don't we sit down and crunch some numbers..." Ok... "Ok, we determined that you can "afford" this car, so why don't we get something on paper today, ok?" I don't want to buy today... "Well, what'* holding you back? You're wife? Here, let me call her for you... Down Payment? Ok, we can work with that..." etc. etc...

You might think, well, they're just trying to put food on the table... BUZZ!!!! An average sales man makes 75k a year, and the good ones make more than 100k-150k a year. It'* like making a deal with the devil...

While a good point, she was willing to spend 30k dollars of her own money to buy that car...
