Default G6 GTP Test Drive

I got to drive my aunt'* Pontiac G6 GTP today through the city for a bit. The roads were nasty because of the snow, so I couldn't have a whole lot of fun with it, but I thought I would share my experiences.

It has the new 3900 V6. It'* very torquey and the tires break loose really easily on the slippery roads.

It has A LOT of pickup. On dry pavement this thing should really move. I didn't go WOT, because I didn't feel like getting in an accident today. But even under half throttle the car takes off very fast. It is very responsive.

The TapShift is a lot of fun to play with as well.

However, one thing I didn't like about this car was the blind spots. There are a lot of them for me, and the rear window is very small and sometimes hard to see out of.

Overall though, this is a really nice car, and has plenty of power. Looks good too. A bit small for me though since I'm nearly 6ft tall.

Sorry to say on a forum like this, but the 3900 is way more responsive than any N/A 3800 powered car I've been in. Weight and gearing may have a factor too, but this engine makes a lot of power. I thought I read somewhere that these cars are capable of mid-14'* stock, but I'm not sure. One day I'll have to take this thing out on dry roads.

Well, there'* my experience with it.

Good comments!

I read an article last night in the latest copy of "Pontiac Enthusiast" that it'* capable of 14.7 in the 1/4. Not bad stock.

The only negative thing they reported about the car is that the throttle is too responsive. Meaning you only have to tap the gas and the RPMs really shoot up. They said it gets annoying when trying to leisurely accelerate.

I still think their report was biased given the name of the publication!

isn't the 3900 rated at 240 hp?

not bad. But I would think it would be a tad to small for myself as well.

I was at the local dealership on Monday getting a free oil change and sat in a G6. I do not know if it was a GTP but I thought the interior was pretty cheap and would show wear and tear in less than a year. The shifter seemed to be the plastic that looks like chrome. The grease on your hands will wear that off in 6 to 8 months.

I did like the styling and thought it should sell pretty well.

I had a GT with the 3500 as a rental car and liked it. I put 1,800 miles on it in 5 days. The car handled well and offered plenty of power. I think it was rated at 210 HP.

I actually liked the interior, but I can see what you're saying about the chrome finish wearing off.

My biggest complaint is that the a/c couldn't keep up with the 95*+ temps of southern TX.

But anyway, the interior didn't look cheap to me. This is the 2nd G6 I've been in, and I really like the inside. It'* very sharp and sleek, and the gauges are really nice too.
