Default NASCAR: What should be done...

I have to vent this...

I love NASCAR, but yet I hate watching it...

I have a few gripes about them and a few suggestions that could make NASCAR FUN!!

Gripe: If you peel off all the sponsors, decals, etc off the cars, the entire field would look exactly identical. They don't even resemble the actual car or a real car even...

Suggestion: Use a real car as your foundation, add the safety bars etc but leave it as is. That includes the FWD/RWD/AWD layout. Hey if Ford races the Fusion, it should be FWD and have four doors and powered by a V6, not RWD, plastic mold, two door and stickered. This would help force the automakers to go back to RWD or develop better cars in order to compete. I would allow the racer to build up the V6 or even develop a new motor but it has to be a V6

Gripe: It'* left turn after left turn...

Suggestion: Do more Watkins Glen racing, instead of doing that once a year.

Gripe: The racing costs millions of dollars, they throw away motors after one race...

Suggestion: Make a budget and keep them at that, if they overspend, they're out. Keep the motor but they are allowed to rebuild it after every race unless they wreck it or blow it.

Gripe: They use restrictors and other means to keep the playing field equal...

Suggestion: Then what is the point of RACING if everyone'* equal. I say, throw out the restrictors, weights, etc and it'* balls out racing...

Gripe: They're plastic....

Suggestion: I'll allow plastic fenders, door skins and hood only since they're most often damaged in a race but the rest must be steel or aluminum.

There I feel better, with those suggestions, I think NASCAR would boom and be the most popular sport internationally.

all of the restrictions and limitations and equal equipment make it a DRIVERS race, not a CAR race, they are two different things.

Note: i still, and always will hate nascar

take it back to the days when the talladegas, daytonas, and superbird ruled powered by built big blocks? it was great wish i could have seen it but it was is and always been a drivers race. the field will always be equal. yes getting rid of the restictors would make it more fun to watch but whne mickey (if i remember right) went to daytona w/o a restrictor he hit 240 or so. unsafe speeds for 35 cars to be running. its all in the hands of the team to make it as fast as it can be within certian rules.

anyone ever seen the circle track cars that the only rule is 750 cfm carb. its basically the same thing you are limited only by the rule. nascar is alike that excapt they had people get the advantage with this or that and had to make new rules agianst it

This was done to make sure no single team/manufacturer had an aerodynamic advantage over another. It'* the driver/team.

It'* all about competition again. If you need to know more about this, use the FAQ on NASCAR'* site.

Gripe: It'* left turn after left turn...

How many road courses do you think there are in the US that can handle a 43-car field? How do you think NASCAR got started?

Suggestion: Do more Watkins Glen racing, instead of doing that once a year.

Gripe: The racing costs millions of dollars, they throw away motors after one race...
some of the used equipment goes to Busch or ARCA. The engines are designed to last about 550 miles. No more.

Suggestion: Make a budget and keep them at that, if they overspend, they're out. Keep the motor but they are allowed to rebuild it after every race unless they wreck it or blow it.

Gripe: They use restrictors and other means to keep the playing field equal...
This isn't done to keep things equal. This is done to keep the top speeds around 200mph. It gets very dangerous above that in a stock car with a full body. Every car in the field runs the same restrictor plate.

Suggestion: Then what is the point of RACING if everyone'* equal. I say, throw out the restrictors, weights, etc and it'* balls out racing...
Ummm.....so it'* about the DRIVER? And the TEAM? How odd. What a stupid idea.

Gripe: They're plastic....
What'* plastic? Those cars are made of metal tubing and metal sheet body panels. Only the windshields are plastic.

Suggestion: I'll allow plastic fenders, door skins and hood only since they're most often damaged in a race but the rest must be steel or aluminum.
They're NOT PLASTIC.

There I feel better, with those suggestions, I think NASCAR would boom and be the most popular sport internationally.[/quote]
NASCAR is already watched more than any other form of professional (including international) racing. NASCAR is watched by more people each sunday than the NBA finals. More than MLB. Only the NFL is viewed by more Americans.

Uhm guys....Like Bill already said, it'* not only the most watched racing in the world already, it continues to grow at a very rapid pace. Why would they end it????

If you don't like it....hmmmm....what to do, what to do??? AHA! I know! Don't watch it!

There are still a number of auto racing forms that are aired nationally, but apparently not enough people are willing to watch them. Are YOU watching them?

Have you been to a live NASCAR event? Try it sometime. It'* really not as bad as you make it out to be. Despite all the rules and restrictions, there'* still alot going on out there. The sheer speed out there already makes for a dangerous competition.

Oh, and to be honest here, I rarely watch any NASCAR myself and even then it'* usually if I'm somewhere other than home.

Okay, I was wrong on some, if not all. For that, I apologize.

Back in the sixties, the cars was not identical, some were more aerodynamic than others, some had more grunt, some had better brakes, etc and those cars was basically true street cars just stripped and fitted with bigger motors. Those are the days I long for. I should have said that at the beginning before complaining on things that are not even true (my fault)

Lol! Nobody'* faulting you...you did start by saying it was a rant...

You know what'* still a lot like what you describe, with the exception of the turns? FASCAR racing. Go to a local oval track and spend a few (not much) bucks to have a good time on a Saturday night. In many of the classes, you'll see all models and makes competing with what they got on 'em. Good fun!

Actually yes I've been to at least 5 before Nascar went down the drain IMO
