Default PUBLIC NOTICE: IMPORTANT (Durham Ontario Members)

Hey there, everyone!

I just have a warning for all of you local (Oshawa/Courtice) members that use Sunoco fuel.

As an employee of the Sunoco @ King & Townline in Courtice, I witnessed fuel contamination aprx a month and a half ago. No one is sure about HOW the fuel was contaminated but, that doesn't change the fact that it was. There was a large amount of water in the fuel. I was lucky enough to have not filled up during the contamination period. Sunoco put forth their best efforts to rectify the problem and reimburse all consumers that were affected (paid their repair bills).

This event was, as I said, aprx a month and a half ago. I only fuel up at the Townline Sunoco (I work there, remember?) and I had problems with my car ('99 Bonneville) on Monday night. My car is in the shop right now and the mechanics are trying to figure out what'* wrong. I told them about the previous fuel contamination at the Sunoco and they are treating my lack of fuel ignition as "contaminated fuel". The results of prelim tests are not in yet but I will keep you posted.

As this information is not supposed to be public, I can not say for sure that other Sunoco stations have not/will not have this same problem. I have provided this information at great risk of possibly losing my job if anyone in power were to find out. But I feel obligated to inform those I know.

So...with this information, I leave it up to you to decide whether or not you wish to continue filling up at Townline Sunoco.

Untill I can update you on my car'* condition... Keep the RPM'* high and the rubber hot!

I've filled up a few times lately at Sunoco stations west of Toronto. No problems here; but I do find my best mileage appears to come from Esso.

Default UPDATE on Fuel Contamination

Well....after 5 days of being in the shop, the guys finally figured out what happened. They pulled the fuel filter, checked the fuel pump and then took fuel samples. As I suspected, the fuel was contaminated. I saw the sample that was taken from my gas tank and, to my dismay, it looked more like cloudy water than anything else. I wasn't too happy about the dark, floating objects on the bottom, either.

Talked to Frank (owner/operator of Frank'* Auto in Oshawa) today and he said the fuel is so contaminated that it no longer had a flash-point. So no WONDER the sample didn't look like much more than water!

So I guess the plan now is to call Sunoco Head Office on tuesday and complain (probably to no avail) and see if they will pay for my car repairs.

Sounds like I'm going to have to switch to a different fuel company.

I was thinkin about goin up the road to Esso (Hwy#2 and Varcoe Rd-Courtice) but I'm not sure about their fuel. Maybe I'll do some research into them and some other companies and try to determine which one to use.

Won't be getting my car back until tomorrow sometime - they have to drain my tank (just filled it up - 68.11 litre capacity), clean the tank, discard the contaminated fuel, put everything back together and then put in $10 worth of fuel. I am hoping the repair bill isn't going to be too astranomical.

Anyway... Now we all know that my station has provided contaminated fuel twice in 2 months.

Talk to y'all later!
