Thank goodness your mom is okay - very glad to hear it. Totally agree with JimmyFloyd - he'* right on the money. Police report helps you out with the insurance debate. My guess is that the girl didn't want to give up her insurance is because she'* had issues before.
Also - I would get my own estimate on the damages - more than one if possible before the insurance adjuster comes out. That way you'll know if the insurance is being fair to you in their assessment. I believe that in my state, a ticket can be issued for not clearing off the car properly...it'* reckless endangerment or something....
...good luck with it... keep us posted on how it turns out.... we feel your pain and understand your frustrations... people do stupid things all the time and we have to suffer the consequences...unfortunately, you can't change people ...you just have to watch out fo them....

And my apologies goes out to the few women on this board who actually know how to drive. My anger is not directed towards you. So let me have my fun for a little bit.
I got an estimate, $1160 to get a new door. Minus around 180 of that if he manages to find a used door in the junk yard. There'* 3 good 93 bonnies in one yard alone. I just hope he wont take the door from the one I plan to aquire, only thing wrong with it is it wont start.
But anywho back on track, I have a new worry now. Body shop guy told me that since the repair is close to half of the total value of the car the insurance may write it off as a total instead! All for a fsking dent which the lady caused out of carelessness. But I guess the advantage of having a lawyer for a friend is he can represent you in court for free.
I mean really, can insurance companies TOTAL a perfectly not totaled car just because its fsking old? Old != bad. What happens if they reject?

The second she refused to give out the info, you whip out the cell phone and a pen, right down the plate and car description, and call the police.....I've had a few like that....soon as they see you dial 3 #'* they crumble....plus the police show up anyways. So anything against her get'* dealt with right thur (tickets, warrants, arrestes, etc.)

Usually it is 75% of the value of the car totals it. You can also settle with the insurance company for a price that is just under the totalling mark, which I think John Deere Boy did with his. Less money they pay in the end and if you can do the work, even cheaper.

If they decide to total it you can still keep the car, they will just deduct a salvage fee and then you fix the car.
I once had a company try to total Jeff'* car and it was only cosmetic damages.

That'* another option. With the car being as old, the salvage title will not have that big of a bearing on the resale as say a 2003 bonneville with one would. Plus, you could fix it cheap if you found the right parts and assuming there is no structural damage to the shell.
