Right now im in the market for something cheap. A few here and there for 60 or 90 dollars, but my friend pointed this one out and so far in my search I really like it and couldnt find anything to beat it:

Its 120 dollars, but im willing to plop it down for the video capability and the zoom. What do you guys think?

before I reply lets just say I have been thru quite a few digital cameras mostly cheaper ones or used high end ones.

FVD-C1..it cost about 700 new but is right near 120 on ebay now. usually with a 512MB SD stick...that camera you listed has a mere 32mb of ram


if you can get away without video (i would say for sure please forget the video part)

get a sony p-100 or similar or an Olympus C4000 or C4040 something from a few years ago but were $600 a few years ago and are built with quality.

your best bet for image quality is going to be buy a used higher end camera that is a few years old.

I was going to go with a Sony Pocket style but the color quality was a little oversaturated for my tastes. Keep in mind both of those sony p73, p100, etc and the c4000, c4040, c5000, etc can be had for under $150 on ebay in used working condition.....


I also own the sanyo pocket video camera. that one I mentioned earlier, it does decent video in the daylight and is ok for still pictures but not close to a regular standalone digital camera. These "crossover" type cameras sorta give you poor quality in every category, nothing is really stunning so I would decide which feature you want and go from there.

Never heard of that brand and for what it is sounds kinda cheap... But umm you get what you pay for... Like with my Bonn, I paid the price (got screwed) but got a great car! Warning spend more and get a better brand trust me. I have a great deal of nice 35mm photo eqq. and my son a decent digi nikon 4300 camera. We never by the cheap stuff, and never need to return it therefore. Take this for instance I have a 400mm Pentax FA Star for my 35mm and son maybe digi slr and it was sure not cheap 1400 bucks but so much better than the 600 tokina verison. You pay for quality!

I'm not really that concerned of getting the best camera out there, if I ever wanted to I would plop the money for a serious one and I will do so in the future. But right now the motivation for this purchase is just to have a means to throw images at my computer since I dont have a scanner and I dont like to wait for my film to develop, so im not that concerned for quality as long as it works. If I ever want to take quality pictures, I still have a very good film camera for that. But right now this is just a computer accessory for when I need to post a picture of my engine compartment for help, ect.

One of the best, and longest running digital camera (for stills) sites, run by Dave Echels. I'm not sure if you are looking for a still camera or a video camera. It all depends on how you want to use it and what you need it for. i-r breaks cameras down by street cost and use. Very informative.

Be careful of zoom (on any camera) and video as an add on to a still camera.

The portion of the zoom that is optical, is good clear shots. When you get into the digital part of the zoom, the camera starts computing pixel spread and the shots lose clarity quickly.

Add-on video can be a kvetch if you intend to extract stills out of it. The frames aren't discrete, they have an interpolative quality where one frame kinda' bleeds into the next. It'* been a while but I think there is an ???i standard and an ???p standard. The ???p ones give you clear frames.

With your budget you're not going to get a great camera, just being honest.

These ultra compact digi-cams have super small sensors which equals not to great quality.

I'm just putting that on the table for ya. If you just need something to take general photos with, then an inexpensive cam will be fine though.
