How do I get a Temp. Tag when purchasing out of state car?
Hey guys,
Well since I will be picking up the GTO in Pennsylvania and I live in Florida, how do I go about getting temporary plates to drive it home? I can't just go into my DMV here since I don't have the title, nor has the sale been completed, so when we complete the sale up there, what will we have to do in order for me to get on the road and head home?
Thanks!

If you buy from a dealer they should be able to issue you one. If not your DMV will be able to do it in your home state......but you need the title. Best of Luck. Did you check the cost of shipping? Gas is a little high but I was just checking a car in VA and they were gonna ship it to NY for under $400. Just an idea.

Shipping is around $1000...and who knows when it will get here. My dad just bought a chevelle in NY and had it shipped to MN and it took like 3 weeks even though it was only supposed to take a week tops..between my $110 airfare and Gas to get home I am looking at around $325...plus I get to see it in person before I go through with the purchase and enjoy driving it home
I won't have the title until I purchase the car obviously, so there isn't any way I can get temp tags from my state, so does anyone else know what I need to do? I read somewhere that you can go into AAA after purchasing a car and they will issue you a temp tag, also the owner of it said something about going to a notary to get one. I will have to talk to him again and see how he did it when he bought it last year out of state.

You may be able to get away with taking your current plates with you as long as you intend to switch them over and notify your insurance company that you are going to be insuring the new car.

I was thinking I could possibly do this too, but now what happens when the friendly police are behind me in traffic and run my plate and see that the plate is not for that car?
My buddy works for the sheriffs department here and said that every car they are behind/following for any period of time they run the plates on it to determine if there is any reason to pull the car over.
I will ask him about this too, but I am thinking that taking plates from my bonne could cause a problem?
I really don't want to be pulled over...
