here in oklahoma there was a law proposed not too long ago that would make it illegal for gas stations to call on drive-offs. from what i was told, texas has a law that says all pumps must have pre-pay, and so rather than pass a law similar, they wanted to pass a law which would have the same effect (because most gas stations would then get pre-pay, once they were told they cant call on drive-offs), without requiring gas stations to put the money in.

I work for Casey'* and honestly some of their corporate policies are the stupidest things i have ever heard, and just the way they set up the stores....

for example, we have 3 cameras all pointing from various angles inside the store at the register...but not 1 single camera that covers the rest of the store.....and not a single camera outside on the pumps....its ridiculous, they say the cost of putting cameras outside would be too much, but we have at least 100-200 dollars a month in drive offs, if not more, if you stretch that over a year period, it wouldnt take much more than a year or year and half to pay for a kick@$$ camera setup.

they also refuse to make any of our pumps pre-pay or credit only, even the ones farthest away from the register that you can barely see anything about the vehicle.

they are also horrible about giving raises, treat their low-level management like crap, and just really suck in general...but hey it pays the bills i guess.

one good thing is that the drive offs do not come out of my paycheck, as is the policy on many stations around here.

oh yeah i almost forgot! technically we arent even allowed to do pre-pay! but we have the software and pumps to do it, so anytime someone wants to do it i let them, if they wanna make a big deal out of it, bring it on, i can go somewhere else that makes much more sense and make way more money im sure...

there must be some Casey'* somewhere that actually have good district managers, because ours are 3 of the stupidest ppl i think ive ever come into contact with.

I live in jersey, so most of those rules don't apply...I pull up, hand the guy my card, get the gas, and pull off....I do miss being able to pump my own gas though...

A co-worker at my job actually did that recently. Her tank is on the passenger'* side and she thought she was all done as the attendant had gave her the receipt and everything. So she pulled off and off came the hose! The gas station didn't do anything as they felt it was the attendant'* fault as well for not taking it out before he gave her all her stuff back.

This is probably a simple concept, and google isn't helping me much, but how does this Pre-Pay work? What happens if you prepay too much? Too little?

Insert card into pump
card gets authorized
pump fuel
take receipt
drive more

What do you not understand?

when you prepay for gas, the card is authorized for the amount, then you pump. the pump will stop at the specified amount. you cannot over-pump. if you want more you have to pay more.

if you prepay and do not pump the full amount, the total is adjusted and only what you pumped is charged to your card. the charge will not occur until after you've finished pumping. in this manner you cannot pump gas you have not first paid for.

all gas stations everywhere should be on a system like this.

secondly, door open or not, if they're gas pumping and you're washing your windows,

*PUMP STOP*

Seems like these antics would **** off the customers. What do you plan to do when you lose your customer base?

Interesting. The person who was a dick about it has a much different answer than the person who was nice about it. Bastard just explained pay at the pump, which I use everytime. Nice guy explained what sounds more like prepay, thanks.

can i be blunt here? it'* exxon mobile. i don't think there'* a company in the world that can better afford to lose a few customers. frankly, if you don't by gas at my store, someone else will.

it'* sucks i know, but if somebody wants to get pissed off at me because i won't let them be a moron, they can go be a moron somewhere else. i get paid the same wether you buy gas here or up the street.

to be honest, i have more customers that love me than don't. in fact yesterday i had a guy walk off with my pen. mind you this is a nice pen that i'd been using for about 3 months.

i didn't realize it until the next customer needed it. i made the comment, "i liked that pen..." and rummaged around until i found some crummy bic. anyway today the same customer who i made the comment to stopped by just to give me a really nice pen.

obviously i must be doing something right.
