Man,that Sucked!!,...a quarter of the Country and parts of Canada without power.I was out for about 4 1/2 hours,......craziest thing I've ever seen.Mob-mentality was starting to take a grip,....cops in our town, around Albany NY,had to direct traffic in and out of the two gas stations that had generators and could still sell gas(people were getting ugly with each other over pumping/or not gas in their vehicles),....traffic signals were non-existent,people were charging across intersections whenever THEY thought they should.
People in high places better take the wake-up call serious,......who knows..it could have lasted for days, not hours.......THEN what :?: :?:

Didn't have power for about 4 hours here. It was the funniest thing too, because everybody was freaking out so bad. Its just power, dang. There were crazy accidents too...people don't understand that no light = 4 way stop. I saw many people not even realize the lights were out and drive straight through the intersection at 60mph. I also saw a bunch of accidents in places that it didn't matter if there was no power because there weren't any lights, people were just getting too excited. I am on the VERY edge of where the blackout is/was though. The whole time, I could go 5 miles down the road and they had power, so we just jumped on the highway and got gas and ate food and stuff in that town, that was nice. My little brother was PISSED though. He was mad because he had to miss his Digimon show...it was the funniest thing I have ever seen, he was crying and everything. I hope people that don't have power get it back soon.

We finally got power around 4am this morning ( 12hours after the fact). I was comming home form out of town. I made a pit stop but had enough gas till the next stop ( still had power) but as I got to the next city lights were out and same with the next. So when I got to the last pit stop still no power or gas. I was about 1.5 hours from home with about 1/4 tank of gas.
Well turned off the A/C and drove home and had about 1/16th left, good thing I turned off the A/C.
For those who know ontario, I was in Pembroke, but had to go through Bancroft first, so then to huntsville then up HWY 11 to North bay and then home. Not the best place to run out of gas, between North Bay and Sudbury, and with no cell phone that worked, since the towers had no power either.

The funny part(was there a funny part?) was that my neighbors about a block from my house got their power back at 7PM and I didn't get power back until 5:30AM this morning. I guess I DO live on the wrong side of town!!!
When the "Big One" hit in 1965, the politicians vowed Never Again. Until they found out the costs involved to fix the system. Of course an Accountant from Arthur Anderson(as you know I just love Accountants) said that by installing a 25 cent fuse they wouldn't have to totally redesign the power grid. And the fuse held until 1977. But again, that was just New York City'* problem(and I was in Brooklyn when it happened). There was plenty of power on Long Island where I lived at the time. So what'* the problem?
I'm usually not what one would call a pessimist, but after they have the congressional inquiry and find that it was Joe Nobody(not Osama) that accidentally threw the wrong switch at a power sub-station in East Cupcake, Ohio(no offense to those in East Cupcake), they will fix the problem by putting tape over that switch and a sign saying "Do Not Touch". To FIX the problem we need to build more power stations(Not In My BackYard), run more transmission lines(NIMBY) and of course raise rates/taxes. But, hey, the power is back and my air conditioner works, so what'* the problem???
