OK, I need a little non Bonneville mechanical help.

My sis in law has a 2000 Saturn L series sedan, I'm not sure if it'* an LS1 or LS2 (I'll find out later) but it'* got the 2.2 4 cylinder and auto tranny.
Two times now she'* had the accelorator get stuck, nothing like a floor mat was in the way or wedging the pedal down, the car just keeps accelorating. Eventually it does come "unstuck".

I've done some searching and have found similar stories involving other Saturn sedans. I have yet to find a story that included a solution to the problem, nor have I found any recall relating to this problem.One person with the same problem stated they had the throttle cable and engine controll module replaced at a Saturn dealership and still had not corrected the problem.

Any ideas would be appreciated.

I would check alldata and see if there were any recalls or TSBs on that. With a sticky accelerator, I imagine if it happened enough that would warrant a recall.

Does it have Cruise Control???

OK , so I was juct checking out ALLDATA, nothing on the throttle sticking as far as recalls.

And yes I do believe it has cruise controll

When I had my 94 and my throttle went Wide open, I heard that it could have been the Cruise control system if it was on. It ended up being my floormat.

Cruise controll was not being used both times it happened

All it had to be was on not set was what I was told. It could also have something to do with the throttle body where the cable attaches. Did you get a chance to look at it at alll?

it COULD be a malfunctioning cruise system. the servo is just pulling on the throttle. maybe a short somewhere? :?

I haven't had a chance to look at it yet, it'* on my ever growing list for this weekend . I'll keep the cruise controll in mind when I take it for a spin to try to get it to do it again. But one of the times it happened she was only going 15-20 mph wich I thought was too slow for the cruise to work, but if it'* malfunctioning who knows :?

the first place I figured I would check would be along the throttle body cables, but I just wanted to get anyone elses ideas of what could cause something like this to happen.
How does one go about checking the cruise controll system to see if it'* shorting out or something?

If the Saturn'* cruise control system is like other GM cars, it'* electrically controlled, but vac operated...which is connected regardless of whether the cruise is turned on or not. The problems I have had in the past were in the vac servo ( not dumping the vac, and pulling on the cable when it wasn't supposed too.)

If you suspect it, then disconnect the servo cable at the TB (disconnect it from the holder too and wrap it up someplace out of the way so it doesn't interfere with the bellcrank on the TB.) Let her drive the car around and see if the problem comes back.

On mine, the problem was never so sever that the car would accelerate on it'* own. It just kinda surged for a second, then would resume normal operation on it'* own. I replaced the servo and all was right with the world again.
