Default its NITROUS not NOS!

Kinda a rant, but all too common, and Ive been reading its much too often on here - its NITROUS NOT NOS. NOS is a BRAND. NITROUS is what you are adding. NOS=Nitrous Oxide Systems!!! If I see someone talking about performance and see them reference NOS, I automatically assume they have no clue.... 90% of the time I'm right. NOS is what ricers want to add. Nitrous is what true performance oriented people want to add. Our cars are not rice... so PLEASE if you reference wanting to add NITROUS to your car, DO NOT CALL IT NOS unless you want to add a Nitrous Oxide Systems branded system to your car!

So:

NOS does not equal Nitrous!

(PS - ITS EVEN LISTED AS NOS on the how-to pages!!!!!!!!! grrrrrr)

geez, youre pretty upset by this. :?

i dunno, i think the association just comes from branding. things like kleenex instead of tissues, and q tips instead of cotton swabs. it happens man, just ignore it when it does if it upsets you that much

Hmmm.. perhaps a little de-caffinated coffee is in order

Really, while technically incorrect, NOS has a become so synonomous with nitrous-oxide systems that I don't berate someone for using the anacronym. Do you unload on someone for using "Coke" to describe the sweet carbonated beverage in hand? (or the white powder they are sticking up their nose depending on the circles they run in.)

I guess I've come to accept someone calling it NOS even though the bottle and solenoids on mine say "Compu-Car" on them.

I'm actually the same way about inline skates. I hate that everybody calls them rollerblades. It'* a brand name. And point of reference, NOS isn't even supposed to be pronounced as a word. The company says each letter N. O. *. Just ppl being lazy I guess.

Rollerblades, band-aids, q-tips, kleenex, zamboni... I'm guilty of all those.

Someone is a little to fixated on generalizations.

Don't ever let me hear you ordering a coke at a restaurant that sells Pepsi.

I think it mainly has to do with being "lazy". I know that NOS is a brand, but I find it easier to type out NOS instead of nitrous and I assume and hope that anyone interested enough to be having a conversation about it knows that NOS is a brand, and just used as a type of abbreviation.
