Someone else had a post about his computer temps. Here'* mine:

My computer has, two times this past week-week and a half, shut off and restarted out of nowhere. I talked to my friend and he suggested getting MBM5 to monitor my temps (unfortunately the temp gauge on my case does not work). Anyways, I got it and my case temp is at 111*F (avg 40*C), CPU diode and socket is 147*F (avg 64*C) and 129*F (avg 54*C) respectively. That is way too hot IMO, especially compared to other people'* temps.

Can I adjust the fan speeds with MBM5? And what else should I do besides adding the heat gel (sorry for not being technical) to the CPU? My friend said his CPU fan went bad and he got another one that fixed his problems. Should I also get another CASE fan?

MBM cannot adjust fans..

Case fan probably won't do it.. unless you don't have both have at least one intake and one exhaust fan as it is. It turned out, what fixed mine was a new heatsink and fan. I bought a Zalman heat sink, and a generic 120mm fan. Made my temps drop 20*C avg. I sit at around mid-high 30s idle, and low-mid 40s under 100% cpu.

$50 later, I was good to go. Anywhere in the 50*C range is acceptable..

I have an intake and exhaust fan on my case. Room for two more if necessary. My CPU fan, at least when I was in the BIOS, was only at 4017rpms. When I start up and am in MBM5, it says it'* at 8200rpms :?

what type of machine are we talking about OEM or custom? Trust the bios # of 4000 rpms sometimes MBM5 can be tricky, try this program.

It doesn't come with the 120mm, but you can mount as big of a fan as you can on there. It'* super quiet, my system is just about silent, and I have 7 fans, [incl. cpu and psu]

My computer is custom, Asus A7N8X Deluxe mobo, AMD Athlon XP 3000+ ...my friend said the same thing about the MBM being wacky...he also said 4000rpm seemed low.

EDIT: I installed SpeedFan (thanks for the link) and that program also says the CPU fan is above 8000rpms...should I still trust the BIOS'* 4017 reading? Maybe it was only at 4017 because I had not booted the computer....?

My computer is loud and annoying, but it'* the HD. It was my friend'* HD and he gave it to me when he helped build my computer. It'* been working fine but he'* advised me to get a new HD soon just incase the noise is a sign of impending failure.

lmao older hdds are super loud.. i have a few in older pcs and it'* super annoying.

Mine is all fan noise. If I disconnect all fans, it'* all silent, and you can't even hear the hdd with all fans off and stuff. It'* super smooth. the 120mm fan moves more air, and is quieter.. that'* why I picked it.

The fan might have a varilble speed sensor . Do you know what type of heatsink it is. If it is the stock AMD heatsink you may benefit from a upgrade to a better heatsink. Again 50* c is a tad on the hot side but not life threatening.

50* is a little hot, but most certainly acceptable. Just grab a zalman heatsink, 120mm fan, and be done with it. $50, and you've got yourself a much more reilaibel and cool sytem on you rhand
