Dragnet. It ran from 1949-1957 (Radio) and1951-1959/1967-1970 on TV. It was written well with double ententes and clever 2nd looks back through the script. And had a gritty reality that often had Jack Webb (it'* creator and lead actor) at odds with Poduction and advertisers. It mixed staying within the letter of the Law and every cops need to judge nuances of human interaction within the Law. He also produced Adam-12 and wrote some of the episodes. All epsododes of each were based on actual LAPD files and the Department was alway glad to help out with the Shows. In both series the Police were portrayed as real people with problems and emotions that played and interacted with the script. Dragnet had become a bit of an amusement to some (including me) for it'* straight laced morals and strong opposition to Pot by the time it finished in 1970.
