Default 1988 cutlass ciera 3.8l overdrive engine compatabilitys.....

What are all the engines that would connect to my trannsmission I came to the conclusion that the 1987 2.8l engine will not connect to the transmission (my logical guess by looking at the 2 engines) its a overdrive tranny in my 1988 cutlass ciera international series 3.8 center console shifter (dunno if that matters). My dream engine would be the DOHC 3.4 litre engine GM makes but i dont think that engine will work what other engines would that work with cause i gota take a trip to the junk yard and pick out a engine soon (i decided to do the engine swap and got a chiltons manual on removing it and it can come out the top ) I would like to put anything sides my low hp 3.8l v-6 the 1988'* had 150 hp and 200 ft lbs of tourque (i feel like the tourque is alot greater than that tho) so what engines would fit sides the 1988 3.8l (SFI) I know there are like a 1990 3.8 engine that says tuned port injection on the top of the engine. Nething more powerful than my 1988 3.8l . (BTW this cutlass ciera is not like most this is worth doing a engine swap the car is the sports car version of this car and I have never found a 1988 cutlass ciera that looks like mine) so any help would be greatly appreciated

any V6 will fit without problems except 3.4 DOHC will be tight i dont think all the engine mounts are the same but the engines should fiti under the hood but mounting them to the chasis is a different story remember you need i PCM and many other things to complete a swap which in my opinion is pointless just buy a car the has the motor in it already

My car is one with "tuned port injection" on it. These are series 1 3800'* that existed from 92-94. In comparison to my grandma'* car with the 150hp 3.8, (same as you're Ciera) I'd say her car has a little more grunt off the line than my car. However, I only have the 2.84 gearing. Since you have the sporty Ciera you may have the 2.97 or 3.06, so you probably would benifit from a series 1. Check the 3 didget codes probably on you're spare cover and find out what gearing you have.

My cutlass ciera smokes alot of people off the line but once i hit 2nd gear they start to pass...... The low end tourque and low 1st gear (shifts at 35 punched) works good if you wana lay some rubber down. The series I would be alot nicer cause they have like 20 more hp and my cutlass ciera red lines at a shitty 5300 rpm lol plus those 3.8'* dont have good reputation with me lots of bearings go and rods......
