MICE
I need help bad. I live in an old house but we have never had a mouse problem in the two years we lived here. A month ago our neighbors house caught fire. It is only about 75 yards from ours. Then have a stable and horses right off there house so I figured they had mice. Well they demo'd the house and have begun digging a new foundation. One night I saw a mouse. I set traps. I caught a total 17 mice in 4 traps one night. I dont sleep so I kept empting them . Well I cant keep up. My fiance keeps our house very nice and neat. No dust no nothing out of place. These damn things are driving us nuts. I caught one in our bedroom right next to our bed last night 15 minutes after we laid down. I dont know what to do. I dont want to put out poison because we have dogs. They get penned up at night on a spare room when I put out traps. I put them out everytime we leave or go to bed. I have been catching one or two a day for a while now. I even took off our electric baseboard heaters and sealed them up. I was told by locals that once it warms up they would leave. It has been warmer for about 3 weeks off and on.
Has anyone tried those plug in electronic ones? Do they work? Any other thing to drive them out of house. I catch all sizes so they are mating. I cant get a cat we already have two yellow labs and they are enough.
Any suggestions? We feel like it isnt our house anymore, kinda feel dirty.

You're going to have to keep up with the traps (don't waste money on the 'sonic' gizmos - they do nothing). You can get a catch and release trap if you have reservations about killing mice.
I had a mouse problem in my house once - I'm pretty sure the general rule of thumb is if you have mice, it'* because you have a food source for them somewhere. One day I was out in my garage, saw a bag of grass seed with mouse droppings around it, and picked up the bag. 5 mice went running. I cleaned it all up, went through a few more traps, and havn't had a problem since.
Don't feel dirty - it'* not generally an indicator that you or your housekeeping habits are unclean. But I'd bet you've got some source of food in your garage, basement, kitchen, or whatever. Do a thorough inspection of your house - it'* pretty easy (at least it was in my case) to see where they are hanging out (mice droppings).
Oh yeah - one more thing. I don't recc. you use poison. I've heard plenty of horror stories about people who did that and then had to endure the smell of rotting mice in their walls.
Edit - just reread your post about your dogs, so you wouldn't use poison.

We have started putting the dog food in a sealed container at night. The little bastards ate the insulation out of our new stove. They really dont have a food source anymore since the dog food. I keep all bird feed and grass seed in my shed about 100 yards in back yard. We have 7 acres behind us. They have started eating the wood in the bathroom. What I dont get is they get in our entertainment center where there is nothing to eat. This f****** sucks big time.

There are chemicals that epel mice without smelling bad to humans, although your dogs might not like them much. And the electric traps have to be emptied, too. Besides, do you really want to put up with the smell of cooked mouse?

yeah we had a mice problem a long time ago at our old house, i reccommend you start searching for the source. Where exactly are they coming in at and where is the central area they are living. but we just kept putting out traps and and finally went to poison. problem fixed after some time...

The electric gizmos are the ones you plug in and they put out a sound that only they can hear. One person said they worked for them but a few people said they dont. Dont really want to waste the money if they dont work.
Finch have you tried the electronic ones?

Didn't do a thing. Except almost burn my house down - I don't know what kind of bulbs they use, but I burnt my hand on one of em. I live next to a lake, so I have a lot of insects in the summer. Supposedly these help with that as well. I can tell you they don't.
Strongly advise not to use them. Waste of $$$.

I am going to get more traps tomorrow. I have about 10 set now. Used to use peanut butter and cheese but switched to some green commercial stuff. It seems to work better. Thanks for all advice. Will go through house again. It is easy to see where they hang but never kill them there. The traps that get hit the most our the ones you wouldnt expect.
