Default Making KVM

I don't have the money for a KVM.. and I want to have 3 systems connected to my keyboard, monitor, and mouse. I was thinking of having a switch, that could have x inputs, and x outputs [x= total wires in connector]x3 of course [for both keyboard, monitor, and mouse]. I don't know what its called in the pole and throw whatever stuff. Is this possible? Will I see a loss in video quality [mind you, my monitor is 7 years old, and really doesn't work all that way as is]. Oh yeah, if it matters keyboard = PS/2, mouse = USB, but is converted to PS/2 for some reason, monitor = VGA.

I wouldn't worry about video quality too much if you use the *nix systems. I think it would be too much of a headache to make one, and you will still be spending money on all the little parts for it.

Check www.pricewatch.com and you might find a cheap KVM switch.
