Golf Respect
Last Sunday, I went golfing with my father-in-law, George. We went to a rural course in Mt Pleasant that crosses a road a couple times. It was a beautiful morning marred only by my dismal performance with the metal sticks and white round thingies.
We were paired with a couple of retired gentlemen that I would guess to be in their mid-seventies, Harry and Fred. They were quiet on the course and respectful of my wild long drives and erratic putting even though both were beating me with their short straight drives and deadly accurate putting.
As we approached the sixth green, which is next to the road, a funeral procession started past, blocking the crossing to the seventh hole. We stopped and waited. Harry took of his hat and stood straight with his hat in hand over his heart and his head slightly bowed. Well, that sort of made me feel a little awkward, so I removed my hat also, in respect for the recently dead.
After the fairly short prcession had passed, we crossed over and continued on. As I was retrieving my ball from the woods for another penalty stroke and and drop for three, I had to wait next to Fred for my FIL to hit. I mentioned to Fred how Harry seemed to be very respectful of the dead and that I could have sworn I saw a tear in his eye.
Fred said, "Well, he should be, he was married to her for 50 good years!"

Yeah. Funny thing is, I think that there are many men who would almost be that way.
Here'* another:
Harry was back on the course the next day, but this time with his usual foursome. As luck would have it, he was having an unusually good round. Also as luck can be, he had a sudden heart attack on the seventh hole and died suddenly.
I saw Fred the next week and he was telling me about it. I was shocked and expressed my condolences. I also said that it must have ruined the day for him and the rest of the foursome.
Fred said, "Yeah, it took up the whole rest of the day. It was, hit the ball...drag Harry, hit the ball...drag Harry..."

My boss would be the same way. Nothing comes between him and 1) Golf, 2) any sports that Mississippi State University is involved with, 3) his money

"The way he plays, they should put the flags on the greens at half-mast."
Golfer: "Do you think I can get there with a 5-iron?"
Caddy: "Eventually."
Golfer (screaming): "You've got to be the worst caddy in the world!"
Caddy: "I doubt it. That would be too much of a coincidence!"
