Default Silly string goes to war.

Before entering a building, troops squirt the plastic goo, which can shoot strands about 10 to 12 feet, across the room. If it falls to the ground, no trip wires. If it hangs in the air, they know they have a problem. The wires are otherwise nearly invisible.
I've known about this little tactic for a while, but I didn't know that someone was getting organized about sending it over.

Whatever works I guess. All the technology in the world and some of the improvised solutions are the best.

You know... trip wires can be made sensitive enough to detect silly string....

Yes, but then they become sensitive enough that they are exremely hard to set up without splattering yourself. They're also fairly hard to make. You would have to make a mechanism, rather than just unbending the pin of a grenade and tying a string to it, or some such.
Also, if you're standing back outside the doorway while spraying into the room, you at least have some shelter from a blast, or a little distance from it.
In any case, it'* better than the usual way of finding them. :(

I was trained to use a long blade of dry grass or a thin twig. That makes for VERY tedious work. When I first heard about the silly string idea a couple weeks ago, I wondered why the US Military didn't have a contract with them.

Then again, the Military would be paying 250 per can.

There'* a big effort to get this shipped over to the troops. This won't be something Chad'* unit would need. They're vehicle patrol mostly. But it might be fun for them!

Someone should rig up a silly-string shell for the M203, or an under barrel M16 silly string mount, lol.

Unfortunately, the Postal Service won't ship silly string by air. A private pilot has offered to take over the shipment that the woman in the article has collected.
